But unlike many A/M shops there is no mileage restriction. Many dealers use A1Cardone to reman their parts, at least I think so, put the cardone and dealer reman together and it's difficult to see the difference.

yep. that was the first place i looked. new, and includes inner tie rods. i just mayh go that route. i'm not buying aftermarket or used then have to do it again months later because it failed.
Shop around, there are many Dealers who sell cheaper than Camelback...

I'm in the market for a rack as well, and so far Camelback seems to be the lowest.

$525 here. Not sure on shipping though, and Camelback does free shipping on orders over $150.

Scrap yard, pick n pull type place. $50.
I bet they don't even save these before they scrap the trucks. Also consider CraigsList.
The rack is VERY easy to remove entirely. You can do it in < 15 mins with a cordless drill and star bit set. I've already removed mine and painted it. Very easy. Don't spend $500 on a rack. :hunter:

You could do that, but then you've just got another old part on your truck that's going to fail soon. I'll spend the $500 on a brand new one that's going to last for 200k than $50 for one that has who knows how much life left.
Rack may be easy to remove, but when you install you need an alignment, that gets pricey.

Ok I'm an idiot and when I read this thought he meant the roof rack. If we are talking steering then yes skip the scrap yard. First post didn't specify but it's probably steering.

My wife put a Car-done rebuilt rack on her '96. And after only 40K miles it started feeling strange and puking oil out of the ends.
It is a PITA to swap a rack, especially if you have to take the HD skids off first, saving a few hundred doesn't really make up for needing to do it again so soon. When the Cardone rack failed she got a brand new OEM rack, it should last for 180K like the first one did. She put an inline filter on the return as well, to help make sure that junk wasn't floating around in the system and causing the rack to fail.
My 99's rack started to feel loose twice so far. First time I replaced all the rubber bushings, because wiggling the steering wheel showed the whole rack moving around. 20, 30K miles later it started to feel a little loose again, this time the driver's side inner tie rod was wiggling up and down a little, but some research showed that the roller guides used in later racks wear and cause that slop, bought a replacement solid guide and installed it and it's still going strong at 219K miles.
