OEM RAV4 Blind Spot Mirror Retrofit

I paid 112 for mine shipped as I noted in an earlier post....they came in super handy on my 600 mile drive yesterday. At least twice cars showed up in the blind spot mirror that I might have missed otherwise.

For full disclosure, I could've simply adjusted my mirror every time I turned my head while driving and saved the $112. :infidel:

I just adjust my mirrors correctly, and I don't have a blind spot. The rear view mirror look backwards, and the side mirrors angle off to each side. They pick up where the rear view leaves off. Simple. And free.

I actually have this set up and am still getting the inset mirrors...I like the way it looks, but will also help with backing trailers and driving through the ranch in tight spots!

I could never figure out why anyone would adjust their side mirrors inward so much as to see the rear of the car they are driving in on the highway. To me, it makes no sense, you know where your car is there is no reason to see it in your side mirror ( I guess if your spatial awareness is not all that good it's different). That said, there is still a blind spot in with mine adjusted although pretty minor.

I started using this mirror adjustment not long after purchasing my former FJ.
The mirrors on the FJ needed to be adjusted like this because of "enhanced" blind spots on that vehicle!

I carried this practice over to the T4R and I can't see myself going back to the "traditional" mirror adjustment.
If I am backing my trailer and need to see down the side of the T4R, I just lean over left or right and I can see.

Fig 1 2 and fig 4 5 are both wrong to show each extreme. You should set your side mirrors so you barely see the edge of your vehicle. That way you have reference when looking back with the most available view.

If you see half of your vehicle in the mirror you are just wasting space, if you don't see it at all your brain can't calculate it as fast in the split second you look behind you.

I know how to setup my mirrors to eliminate blind spots but i still use convex mirrors so i can also see the exact location of my rear tires, its really helpful backing up in tight spots or even just for on-street parking

That chart is probably correct for the robot driver who never shifts position in the seat. I move around, especially on long drives, and the convex mirror still lets me see what I need to see without returning to position 0.

I cannot imagine having to setup my mirrors where I have no idea where my vehicle is in relation to anything else. All you've done is trade one blind spot for another. I'll be getting these mirrors. I've had them on every vehicle for the past 10 years and they help.

I'm diggin' this for the DS. Currently I'm using Broadway Convex. It gives a nice, continuous view from the DS rearmost pillar to the PS door.

Just to confirm again, these 42D20/42D50 mirrors are from 2016 Rav4? and it will fit my 2016 4Runner SR5?

I asked my friend who is a Toyota tech to look up his system. He confirm that we do not have these part numbers in Canada.

When he look up 2016 Rav4 side mirrors, there are 18 part numbers, so it should be 9 different mirrors for 2016 Rav4, but non of them are matching the part number on first post.

I found that the rear headrests block a good portion of the left and right lower corners of the inside mirror. When flipped down or when the back seats are down the view is better of course. This mod helps make up for the view blocked by those head rests, at least for me.

I agree that these do not work quite like the stick-on convex mirrors or OEM convex mirrors on other vehicles, like the 2013 Fusion I had before my 4Runner. The field of view of the blind spot mirror portion is limited to about 4-5 o'clock on the right and 7-8 o'clock on the left if you think of the truck at the center of a clock. Took a while to get used to the view but now it's all good and it really is an improvement. Basically, if you see a car in that blind spot mirror, definitely don't change lanes lol.
