OEM skid plate. Where can I find one?

I'm looking for the oem skid plate that came on some of the 99-02 models. Anyone know if the ones for tacomas and tundras work?

Tacoma yes will fit and to find one would be a task. I would CL search or junk yard would be second best.

You may be able to get the skid plate(s) from Camelback Toyota. I just got the rear engine cover that attaches to the front skid plate for ~$112. It's best to call them to confirm the part number. This page shows item #12 in the diagram, but there are two #12s listed with similar descriptions and prices.

Also, while you're talking with them, have them look up and include the bolts if you need them.

Yeah I'd just start searching the local junkyards for a 4Runner and see what you come up with, or find someone on CL parting one out.

follow-up thought... post-coffee. it looks like you're hunting for the fancier, optional skid plate. You might still call Camelback to see if they can help you identify it and get a baseline price for a new one before hitting the junk yards and CL. I'd be interested to know what price and part numbers you find or if you find a cache of these available somewhere. J.A. might help with ID as the skid plate is shown in the Toyota brochures linked on the page:

Looks like an aluminum plate. Not sure that was an option for 3rd gen 4Runners. I have a my stock skid plates from my 00' 4Runner that I would sell.

Those came stock on the Sport Editions.



I had one, but it had an unfortunate incident with a very large rock, so I've been without for years. Some day I will get one again.


If you're looking to add one where one previously did not exist, be sure to get the brackets for it as well, as it does not mount directly to the frame.

I think those are on the 2002 sport editions only. I have a 2001 sport with the normal skid plates. However my neighbor has a red 2002 sport with the "sport edition" badges that only the 2002 had and he also has the skid plate. Looks great.

The Tacoma plate will bolt up on 96-98 4Runners. For 99-02, you will have to make bracket extensions, or try to find used brackets from another truck.

It mounts completely independent of the standard skid plates.

This is all based on what I've read from a brief Google search. You'll want to verify before you spend your money.

Thanks. The ones for the 4runner are discountinued. tacoma ones are found easily. Just need to find how they make them fit.

I bought the Tacoma one from Toyota for my '98 and it came with all the brackets and bolts etc. Direct fit.

Rather than create a new thread I thought I'd bump this one. I have an 02 Sport but don't have my front skid plate and was looking into the Tacoma option.
