Off road lights behind grill?

Anybody running off road lights or aux lights behind their grill? I've done a search and can't find what I'm after. I have some on my truck but would like ideas for when we get a 4runner. Thanks.

I mounted my Piaa 510 in the lower grill. I was disappointed with the light output and have since converted them to full HID.

I wish it was an E but my funds only allowed the SR (single row) but it's plenty bright even through the grill. It was fairly simple, the light bar came with 2 set of brackets I used the taller of the two to center the light in the grill space. I measured 22-7/8 apart, drilled and Tapped the aluminum bumper inside with a 7 or 8mm tap, bolted the bracket and light bar into place. I ran the wiring direct to the battery so I can have lights anytime. I also moved the license plate up by half inch to help clear the beam.

Sorry - I don't post much (usually browse) but I just did driving lights behind upper grille over the holidays on my new 12 TE.

Did grillcraft mesh grill first, and then used aluminum bar stock and large washers to secure lights to upper bumper cover support (sheet metal where upper grill rests on). Sheet metal is a little flimsy so alum flat stock and large washers basically stiffens the structure and keeps everything secure. Lights are Hella Black Magic rallye 1000 and barely fit in front of horns and AC lines. Basically, it can be done with slim lights, but just gotta take it apart and test fit options.

Very nice job on mounting the Black Magics. I am looking to get a new TE and wanted to mount my Black Magics from my 4th gen like this. Can you expand some on how you went about mounting them? And what modifications if any that you needed to make to the horn or AC lines?
 
For those who have done it do you notice any shadowing or difussion of light having the lights behind the grill?

I will be mounting a 20in flood LED light bar behind my grill and I am trying to decide if I should cut the grill and flush mount it so there is nothing blocking the bulbs or just have it recessed behind the grill craft grill.
 
I have no problems with the stock grill with my Rigid 20". You can see a shadow of the grill if you were up against the wall but you won't see it on the road.

Having had driving lights stolen from the grill of a previous car I would prefer the light protected behind the grill but didn't want to sacrifice light out put.

Any pics of the light output?
 
Maybe a stupid question but for those that have mounted the lights behind grills, how do you keep them clean? Especially the bugs and winter build up...

I spray em down with some foaming surface cleaner and wash em with the hose, sometimes ill give em a quick blast with the pressure washer.
