I'm out simply because it makes me feel better to not support them. I know there is no real tangible impact. For this year, sitting out surpasses my love of the game.
We'll see how long I last before I break down.

So what your saying is by sitting this year out your backing the owners who locked the players out? The last lock out the players came crawling back on hands and knees but the owners said they are still making too much is what the lock out was all about. The owners can own a team for a lifetime and make money, the players only have a few years to play and make a living. I'll always back the players

To add to that, the owners were the ones that "got what they wanted" last time around. Bettman even said we won't have another problem like this because of the CBA they put in place last time. Low and behold, the owners signed the CBA then did everything they could to circumvent it by signing long-term deals that are front loaded to stay within the allocated cap and buy the players they thought would be their saviors.
Since only one team wins the cup each year, everyone else looses, including a lot of those teams that signed the ridiculous long-term deals. Basically everything Bettman has done since being in office has been a failure. Especially the new rules to "help speed up the game" which are just ridiculous. I feel sorry for the defenseman since they can't even look at an incoming forward without getting called for interference.
Sure, there are still a lot of problems, but hockey is better than no hockey!

Hawks will dominate, Kane has stepped up big along with the offensive machines known as Hossa and Toews. Solid D and Corey Crawford has been surprisingly decent between the pipes! They're 6-0, can't argue with that.

It's my dream before I die to see a Flames game in the Saddle Dome. That run in the '04 playoffs was some of the greatest hockey I've ever watched. I really thought they were going to win it that year. Kipper was a beast in the net and Iggy was such a force on the ice. Too bad the lockout ruined the following year.

Haha, not likely. I'll agree that they're off to a good start, but all good things come to an end. Crawfords been good but can't play every game and I doubt Emery can pick up the slack. Same goes for your top line. They can't score every goal in every game & Sharp is the only other guy you can count on for 15+ goals. Duncan & Seabrook are good, but again, can't play 30+ min every night. That said, they can have the division title. We'll take an easier draw throughout the POs and quietly win our way all the way to the finals. And, for the record, the Hawks didn't beat the Blues, the refs did. See my comment above about the sketchy interference calls this season

Its good to be a Sharks fan right now! ...hopefully I can say the same thing come playoff time. Felt good to be back in the stadium watching some hockey!

It was tough to follow the Hawks when I was a kid in the 80's and early 90's. At that time the owner didn't believe in televising home games as it would be unfair to season ticket holders.
In the mid 90's when I could drive my friends and I started going to games. The Hawks were playing well in the early 90's and it was the days of Roenick, Chelios, Belfour, Larmer. Etc.
Now as an adult I've had season tickets since the 08/09 season.

I've seen that, it's not bad. They said it was based on a true story, but I must have missed who it was based on.
I'm still amazed by the Hawks run so far this year. They keep this up and they'll be bringing home another Cup (which, as a Blues fan, I hate)

The film is an adaptation of the book Goon: The True Story of an Unlikely Journey into Minor League Hockey by Adam Frattasio and Doug Smith. Footage from Smith's career as a hockey enforcer is shown during the film's credits, and Smith said in an interview at Grantland.com that he is happy with the finished film.
Former NHL enforcer Georges Laraque has a small role as an enforcer for the Albany Patriots. His character fights both Glatt and Rhea over the course of the film. He draws with Glatt and the outcome of his fight with Rhea is not shown. When Laraque's character fights Glatt, the dialogue closely resembles the dialogue used by Georges Laraque in a fight against Raitis Ivanāns.[3]
Goon was filmed in Brandon, Portage la Prairie and Winnipeg, Manitoba.[4] Most of the hockey scenes were filmed at the Portage Credit Union Centre in Portage la Prairie, even though the Halifax Metro Centre was shown as the home of the Halifax Highlanders .[5][6]
The stick-swinging incident for which Rhea was suspended during the film's story bears a strong resemblance to an incident in the NHL when Marty McSorley of the Boston Bruins slashed Donald Brashear of the Vancouver Canucks in the head from behind. McSorley was suspended 23 games for the incident, which was extended to a full year after he was convicted of assault and sentenced to 18 months of probation. McSorley would never play another NHL game. Due to the slash and the fall on the ice, Brashear suffered a concussion, the same injury Laflamme suffered at the hands of Rhea in an unrelated incident.
Another infamous NHL incident alluded to in the film is the Boston Bruins climbing into the stands and fighting the fans at Madison Square Garden on December 23, 1979. This was provoked by a Rangers fan who slapped Stan Jonathan hard enough with a rolled-up program to draw blood, and subsequently stole Jonathan's stick. Mike Milbury infamously beat a fan with the fan's own shoe. Milbury was suspended for six games for his involvement in the altercation. His teammates Terry O'Reilly and Peter McNab were suspended for eight and six games respectively, while the fan was sentenced to six months in jail. All of them were also punished with a $500 fine.[7]
The teams Doug Glatt plays for over the course of the film both reference the Philadelphia Flyers, an NHL team that became infamous for physically intimidating their opponents during the 1970s. Glatt's home team, the Orangetown Assassins, wear a uniform similar to the ones the Flyers wore during the 1980s, including the orange and black color scheme. The Halifax Highlanders employ a logo that is structured as the letter H with a circle signifying a puck on the right and wings on the left side of the letter; the Flyers logo has a similar design but with the letter P. The Highlanders team colors and name, however, are similar to those of the New York Islanders.

It must kill you that your Hawks are playing so well in March but the Stanley Cup isn't awarded until June.
All this means almost nothing. Their misfortune is coming. Good luck.

I like that the new divisions are based on time zones. From a TV perspective, it makes sense because a majority of the inter-conference games will be on in primetime for both cities. I think this is good for the casual fans and helps build rivalries. That said, there will still be games outside primetime.
I also like that each team will play every other team in the league at least twice (1 home, 1 away) each season. I think this is good for the league and fans.
Geographically I think moving Winnipeg to the West makes sense.
Dislikes
Moves: St. Louis and Detroit have had a great rivalry for years and going from playing them 8 times/yr as an inter-divisional rival to playing them 2 times/yr kinda sucks.
Playoff format: I have always hated that the top team in each division gets the top 3 conference spots. If the 3 best teams in the West Conf are in the Central Division, then they should be in 1st, 2nd & 3rd place. They are continuing this format by giving the top 3 teams in each of the (new) divisions a PO birth. The following 2 teams will be decided by wild card.
Maybe I'm just a little to simplistic, but I've always thought that the top 8 teams should be seeded in the playoffs by number of points, regardless of division.
Divisions: I don't like that there are only 14 teams in the West and 16 in the East. I think there should be 15 in each. I think Detroit should have stayed in the West, but moving Columbus to the East was good. Division C & D are absolutely moronic. Florida and Tampa Bay should be in Division D and the Rangers and Islanders should be in Division C. The only way this makes sense is if they are planning on moving the FLA teams to different cities, one in the East and the other in the West, but I don't see that happening anytime soon.
Bettman kept saying that nothing can be, or is going to be perfect. But, I think they could have done better than this. It's not horrible, but seems more like a first draft than a final draft. I guess we'll see how the next 3 years go...

How is it Florida has two teams but wisconsin has none? always baffled me. Division D is going to be a beast division imo. Huge CAPS fan and love seeing the crosby ovechkin rivalry in full force, but Pens, Flyers, Rangers, Caps, Devils, and Hurricanes in same division? they are all playoff teams fighting for wild cards now. Florida and Tampa should replace either Islanders, Rangers or Devils. Detroit should stay in the West since they have established rivalries and to give them an extra original six team. Geographically this makes sense to me and you keep your rivalries together.

Agree. Don't count on seeing your Caps in the top 5 anytime soon. Don't forget how good the Isles will be in another year or two. Very much like Edmonton.
