Official: Gym/Workout Thread

Just stumbled across this thread as well but I strongly suggest any fitness NOOBs (noob check: younger than 25 or still in HS?)

Brian, I respect you far too much to jump on you about this. Lets not be too ignorant though. That's a rather broad generalization.

I do agree with everything else you said, however.

A lot of the guys I work with eat very healthy, and then forget all the crap that's in their delicious protein and preworkouts... I think that's a pretty common mistake.

In regards to cardio- Being in the Army I was running at least 5 miles on weekdays, and many many more on the weekends with my wife. It was nearly impossible for me to make any mass gains with that... I switched over to just doing HIIT for cardio a few times a week and am honestly in the best shape of my life. Granted- I probably couldn't run a marathon right now, but my 2 mile time (all that's required in the Army) has actually improved.

On another thought, I am VERY surprised that no Crossfit fan boys have chimed in here telling us how lifting weights is bad and flailing around on a pullup bar is the only way to get in shape =p (I am kidding, I respect anyone who goes out of their way to try and better themselves physically.)

Been Power lifting for 8 years, started lifting for bodybuilding last year. first picked up weight when i was 12 when most kids are playing with Pokemon cards, i count my macros and some micros, i measure and test every supplement and compound i put into my body. so your 25 or under as a noob comment is invalid.

I was pretty into fitness when I was in the service and I can assure you that supplements will account for a very small % of your fitness improvements when working out. I actually knew quite a few "larger" guys who wanted to trim and despite their supplement based workout & diet, actually got fatter. Their mistake was not eating healthy (example: no processed foods) and not embracing a focus cardio.

Some supplements are actually pretty safe like Creatine and Gluttimine but even those only work when consumed properly.
Most supplement and substance are safe if you know how to use it. Those "larger" guys was probly not in a caloric deficit, i can cut eatting cheese burgers if i watch my macros and go 500cal below maintenance. so it's all about if you know what you are doing.

If you are (jokingly) referring to steroids then you prob meant to say "cancer and/or long term impotence"

That's when you are wrong, unless you've correctly used steroids i don't think you know what really goes on, i'll admit when i did my cycles i messed up and had some negative side effects(shoulda added Arimidex and novedex) but if you mix just the right amount the stuff in your combo you'll pretty much have a magic compound that has as much negitive effect as someone who drinks occasionally, and to be honest i rather be juicing than drinking.

just picked up some C4 pre workout today, cant wait to have a scoooooop before my workout tomorrow. bumped up a couple pounds in weights today. went from 30-45-40 reps of 12(30)-10(35)-8(40) to 12(35)-10(40)-8(45) on dumbbell press. and a couple in other areas:AK47:

Nice man! C4 is a really good preworkout but i gotta stand by my Craze that shit is bananas B! B! bananas lol Just make sure you cycle it other wise the effect will wear off and you'll just be wasting money taking more but feeling less, i would suggest 1 week on 1 week off.

Alright thanks for the little tip.

I really hate all the talk about "supplements not working". Like **** man, if supplements do not work, why do most people take them? And if they really dont, then oh well, but no need to get all fired up about it.

Because most people take their supp then go to gym and do some bullshit work out for 30 mins and go home and eat fried chicken and not count calories or macros and complain about how their supp don't work.

As long as you get enough calories, enough complex carbs, lean protein and good fats and lift like a beast. you will get gains. supplement just help you get more focus, lift heavier recover faster, in the end GET MO GAINS!

Dude btw, if you never taken a preworkout before, the first day of C4 is gonna be crazy you gonna feel like superman in the gym :D

Then clearly you aren't a noob but disagree with the quasi-explained steroid jokes.

Either way it reads like you are playing down the negative side effects of steroids and if so then you are clearly in the wrong and a bad role model for the kids (yes there are plenty) on this forum. Steroids are pretty F'd man. I've met several people who suffered long term damage to their body because of steroid misuse.

My simple advice, meant to compliment lifting weights :
1. Don't do crazy supplements; those company's have an incentive to lie and are unregulated
2. Eat healthy! Wow try this advice twice.
3. If you are trying to loose weight or trim then do A LOT of cardio.

I know where you coming from and i wish i didn't take it back then, because i was no where near my genetic limit and i took the ***** way out.

Very true, have to do your research most of those company's study is super bias
2. Eat healthy! And live longer Wow try this advice twice.

you can lose weight by just eating in a caloric deficit but doing a lotta cardio means you can eat more, have better cardio vascular health and who doesn't like eating more lol

Your logic is flawed. Yes some supplements like Creatine work when taken in proper doses.

But there are thousands of supplements out there and IMO about 90% are BS marketing.

It is a completely unregulated market. When you see "not regulated by FDA" on the can that means they can 100% flat out LIE to about what it does and how it works. They can literally just make sh#t up.

So no, not every supplement is bad but a large amount of them are total crap and might even harm you.

So I guess that is why I suggest thinking of supplements as the 10% strategy. How do you get that final 10%? Supplements, the ones which work.

pretty funny, but terrible form. He's arching his back and from the looks of it, they don't have leg equipment at his gym...

Somebody is not a powerlifter :D

they have barbells and weight plates, that's all the leg equipment you need.
