Still with friday traffic x4 the driving time for a 2 hour meet. Ive done parking lot meets and camp ground meets. It provides people a much larger window to attend. Plenty of camp grounds that even low-riders can make it to. No worries of getting permission who owns the lot, BBQing or meet times. Theres a happy medium and a easy access full amenity camp ground is better less planning and larger window. If this was a scion meet a lot is the best choice. But the idea of a wide window of hours and friday-sat out weights any negatives. You dont need to camp, arrive, meet, BBQ and leave, or drive hours and hours stay as long as you want.
I like your idea, but I just don't see it working for a large turnout of rigs. Anyone remember the big bear meet with 33 rigs? What nightmare that was. How many rigs could we fit in a place like this? If there is a centralized, big enough, and inviting enough place that we can have our meet, let me know. I've never been to a campground where we could fit more than a few rigs per spot. Plus they were never lighted enough, you'd have to bring your own light sources. That sounds like a fun idea for a few rigs and close friends.
Frankly, since we can all go on wheeling and camping runs whenever (that's why we have these vehicles), my idea was more like our very own car show, except with wheeling rigs and not shiny chrome 50's American classics. This time around, I'd like to get more of a tailgate party feel going (without going crazy). The more secluded lots (such as Irvine Meadows) have tons of space for a responsible T4R group.
My apologies if this sounds mean, but the meet I had in mind really only was meant for somewhat local (LA, OC, IE, and SD) folks. SoCals a big place! Any further and I can get why you might be bothered. The first time I did these meets, another member started a shit-show because he didn't want to drive, either. Of course there's always going to be a few people who aren't happy. Maybe a better name would be "Greater OC area meet." You're in Ventura so that's a hell of a drive, even I wouldn't make that drive just for a meet (traffic or not). There's other, closer, more appropriate meets/runs you can go on during the weekends you may find more suitable than this one.
I don't mean to seclude, but you just can't make everyone happy. I can't attend weekend meets due to my work schedule, so I've been secluded enough myself, enough to plan my own weekday meet. If the day doesn't work for you, well, honestly, just go to another meet. This one just might not be for you. There's still going to be plenty of people who want to come, as evidenced by past meets.
