OG 5th Gen 10-13 models

I’ve got 114k on my 2010 and I really wouldn’t want to replace it with anything yet.
Looking forward to maybe finally replacing the brakepads in the next year or so.

Getting started with mods. Emblem blackout. Fog light independent control rewire. Smoked DRLS. Plastidipped hubs. Headlight restore. Replaced head unit with Trail Grid Pro Apple Car Play Sony AX-5500.

this is not a criticism, i just honestly dont know the answer. what are the advantages of the "smoked" lenses? i see alot of other people putting on smoked tail light kits, etc. is it just a cool look, or is there an effect on the output?

is there a thread for the for light rewire? not sure if i want to do that, but would love to take a look and see what is involved.

I like the old look better, it's plain and simple more like the tacoma. I still dont like the look of the newer ones at all. The newer Lexus are infinately worse. Even new Hondas look ridiculous too... looks like the offspring from a Decepticon ****ing a Civic.

So we see everyone updating to the 14+ bumpers to get the newer look, but have we seen anyone take a 14+ and convert it into a Early Gen 2010-2013?

I for one would love to find out if anyone here has done that. The Salsa Red Pearl Trail Edition is like the Unicorn of 4Runners for me personally. I know that color doesn't exist in 2014+ but we sure could have some fun converting a few front ends to be Early 5th Gens.

If there were ever to be an "incident" with our SR5 front end, I know I will find it very difficult to not convert it to a Trail edition with new bumpers and trim all around.

i just love the front end look of the OG Trails. My good friend picked up his 12' Trail in the back 2 weeks ago. My other good friend picked up his 4th gen the same day we went to this spot.

I don't really see a benefit for a 14+ owner to convert to the 10-13 front end besides for the novelty of the elusive OG Trail Edition. I for one would not want to "downgrade" headlights, have to retrofit, or buy aftermarket ones just to get the OG look. I personally retrofitted my headlights, which I think was one of the best upgrades I did to the truck besides regearing. Alpharex and Sypder only recently released aftermarket headlights for 10-13, but they really update the front end of the truck IMO. I personally would love to save some weight and money by doing the "viper cut" with the lo-pro bumper rather than go full blown front bumper to increase approach angle and run bigger tires. I also think the Trail Edition roof rack may be difficult to find nowadays (in decent shape).

But there's a reason I bought a used 2013 instead of a 14+...

It is Valley of the Moon, went there saturday and camped to see some meteors. no one else was there, til we headed out the next day.

Skid plate was no problem, just had to cut out the sides for KDSS and installed spacers from the hardware store since i have a diff drop.

So this is what started the wheels turning in my head. If you could source the parts still, given the headlight retrofit, it could be possible to get that "Look" if you spent the money and pieced together your vehicle. Obviously, it might still be easier to source a used Trail, but even that seems to be harder and harder to do.

I was on the hunt back in 2018 for a low mileage Trail Edition, preferably Shoreline Blue. I had been looking for about 7 months until I found my Salsa Red sitting at Toyota dealer in Flagstaff. I had to put $1000 deposit before actually seeing it in person, however, the salesman did send a ton of photos as well as a walk around video.

As far as headlights, I did leave out that I upgraded to HIDs along with the retrofit. I followed my own process as I have done it to other vehicles in the past. I believe I have the stage III Morimoto kit but I am going to upgrade to the Alpharex Pro and swap out the bulbs as I broke my driver side headlight on a recent trip (HIDs are also flickering). I could just replace the cover and buy new HIDs, but I really like the look of the Alpharex (specifically the DRLs) so I'm gonna give them a shot

IMO, the 10-13 headlights are excellent after re-aiming them down where they’re supposed to be. I prefer the color of standard bulbs after running “Xtremes” for a couple years, I can see wildlife better. Just got back from a 1600 mile trip with plenty of night driving on deserted roads.

nothing turns my head faster than a 10-13 trail edition.. it just screams rugged and dependable
