Oil Change 5th Gen: How To- LOTS of PICS!

There is a $10 coupon for Sept if you also buy 2 filters, IIRC. My local Costco doesn't carry 0w-20 yet but I'm sticking with the TGMO anyways for now.
 
newbie to the forum, did my first oil change on my 2015, wow did that suck! no problems until tried putting skid plate back on think i just gonna buy the bud built skid plate and make my life easier
 
Just used this as a guide to complete the first change on my 15. Super easy. Think I'll be Able to do it in under an hour next time. (I'm ocd so have to clean everything and inspect while I'm under there)
 
Somebody must be missing something . No way should the skid plate have to be removed for an oil change! I My 97' has a skid plate and I remove the filter through the wheel well. I can do an oil change in 10 min. If a am feeling lazy.

Skid has to come off. I don't see any way around it.
 
Yes I guess you could cut a hole in it large enough to drop the filter assembly through. Dropping the skit really only takes a couple minutes though.
 
I may stand corrected, but I believe I've seen mention at this site of after-market skid plate(s) that have a pre-cut hole designed to provide oil filter housing accessibility.

Or you could hack up your existing plate, but I'd just as soon remove the 4 bolts that hold it on. It's not that difficult to remove/install.
 
How important is it that the two pieces on the filter housing and engine casting line up perfectly?
I probably put mine on too tight and went past the easy fit by half a turn...should I re-do it?
The diagram on the box doesn't mention it.
 
I performed this yesterday for the first time...not that bad a deal...

except...i couldnt get the plate off of the bottom of the filter canister. so i had to pull the entire canister off, filled with oil. And i could never get the skit plate fully off of the vehicle, so i simply swung it down and held it there as i finished the job.

Yes, that was a missy thing to have to do. other than that, it went fine
 
Why such a time consuming messy process? Lets hope someone comes up with a replaceable spin on filter. Toss all that oem stuff in the trash

To fix that problem.
I use a pair of large channel locks to hold the canister in place while using the socket to take off the bottom part.
