anyone know what the part number is for a Toyota oil filter for the 3.4 V6?

There are several. While there's only one size of filter for Toyota V6 engines, the part number varies based on the country in which the filter is made.
90915-YZZB9 - Made in Japan. Replaces 90915-20003, which was discontinued. The best filter of them all, but it's also the most expensive, so most U.S. dealers don't stock it.
90915-YZZD1 - Made in Thailand. It's second to the one made in Japan, but it's usually the least expensive. Going rate for it is $5 - $6 at dealers, or $4 - $5 on the Internet. This is the one that most dealers carry.
90915-YZZG1 or 08922-02011 - Made in U.S.A. The cheapest-made version. The gasket isn't even pre-oiled. Dealers that stock this one charge more than dealers that stock the Thailand filter!

I run the 4.0L (03-06) oil filter D3 is the last two characters on my 02 3.4L. Same inside diameter as the D1's but with a bit more capacity and filter for the 3.4.
Yes, it will fit. The 90915-20004 is the Japanese version of the 90915-YZZD3 Thai filter, which is for the V8's and is also the recommendation for the 4.0L V6.
An owners manual for a 5VZ-FE (3.4L V6) may not account for the slightly bigger filter, so check the dipstick to make sure there's enough oil in there after you change it. It's only a slight difference, but good to check anyway.

Cool, I've got 4 of them, and I'll make sure to check the dipstick. These are available from Dan at American Toyota in Albuquerque.

From my research, manufacturing of the Denso YZZB9 in Japan was discontinued and then simply re-dubbed YZZD1 (almost the same filter even though now it's "Made in Thailand") and the YZZD3 is really the same filter as the YZZD1 (same width only taller for V8's) and can also be used on 3VZE's!

This filter is manufactured by Denso and is rather unique. For starters, the cartridge has no end caps to speak of. Each pleat is thermally bonded shut at the ends about 3/16" inward. This was accounted for in the surface area measurement, however this filter still has the largest surface area out of the entire group: 160 sqin. The main reason for this is the narrow core tube, which allowed for very deep pleats and thus a very long filter element. A wide core tube is not needed for such a short filter. The filter does use a plastic bypass valve similar to the Fram filter, however I could not make this one leak. It is also held in place by a steel clip rather than plastic tabs like the Fram.
As for myself, I'm using the YZZD1.
