oil level on V8 dip stick

On the dip stick where does the oil level read, on a cold engine mine reads just slightly below the top dimple, but it's not at the top dimple am I being paranoid and it's fine, is this where the oil is suppost to read after 6.5 quarts and a filter, I just want to put the other half quart in, make it a solid 7 cause then it's above the dimple.

It's still in the normal range but if I check the oil with a warm engine nothin comes up really :artist: he's not a painter thats a rag and a dip stick:arrow:

You are being over paranoid. If the filter change requires 6.5 then put in 6.5. Dont worry if it doesnt register on the dipstick perfectly as there is oil still up around the valves that will take a long time to drain down. If it is in the normal range then put the dip stick down and go have a beer. Putting too much oil in is not good as you can blow out seals and have a real mess on your hands.

Also you can't really check the oil right after you turn the engine because not all the oil has drained back into the pan. Wait about 10 minutes and then check it.
