OK...WTF...rubbing really bad after lift!

I did my 3" 890 rear and full 3" spacer front lift from toytec. got some nice 285 75 mud terrains cuae I read that they will NOT rub on this site....and now I rub extremely bad! Im literally going to F*ing go NUTS!!!

The ONLY thing I can think of is that my 2002 front coils are shorter than all other years with this lift and I screwed myself by that fact! Do I need to get some 99 front coils?

I cannot afford to get to get new front lift stuff or smaller tires. I can afford some used coils that are a taller than mine. IF thats the issue!

What do you all think!?

and yes I did get an alignment after. BUT the front tires look to be more "forward" than before....?

thanks in advance :roadkill:

Do you know where it is rubbing? Put the runner on jackstands so that the front tire hang free. use a jack to begin lifting the tire till it rubs then mark that spot and remove the tire and hammer that spot back. Put the tire back on and continue to do that process till nothing rubs at full compression with the tires at full lock. you shouldn't need to touch the fender. I got 315's to fit that way with no lift. I did the process with the front coil out so it was easier cycle the suspension. For 285's i cant imagine it would take much work at all. Good luck. Don't fret the big hammer will save the day:jump:

here is an article with the basic concept only cutting and welding

Clearance for 35-inch Tires on a Tacoma at ANY Lift Height | Trails Less Traveled

did you take a measurement of your fender height before and after to see if you got the full 3" out of your front spacers?

the problem with spacers on shot coils is exactly that... it just compresses the coil even more,

I know I had 2.5 spacers in with my shot front coils and got only about 1" of real lift.

Im guessing you have the same issue, you shouldnt have any rub with a real 3" of lift, not unless you are fully tucked offroad

Don't feel bad man! I was pretty stressed too when I got some rubbing on my lower front valance when I did my lift, and mines a 98. Did the same lift as you did. I ended up trimming the lower valance in the fender well, and that solved most of it. Now it only rubs, when I make hard right turns, or have my rear heavily tucked.....I'd like to to a body lift, or maybe swap out the current front setup for some adjustable coilovers.....

Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

I would be it's the inner plastic wheel well trim that it's rubbing on and the pinch weld that is behind it. trim and hammer!! if you are running a mud tire with large side lugs that is usually what causes the rub. when people hear my tires rubbing I tell them my runner likes bean burritos!!
pics will help us help u!

Do you have mud flaps? I know when I added spidertrax I get a lot of rubbing at full turns on the flaps up front. I didn't get any rubbing until the spacers pushed my wheels out further. Since you have a low offset wheel I'm wondering if that's causing the rubbing on yours. I just received my body lift so that should help mine. That may be the next route for you.

Thank you all for your replies.

The tires are rubbing on the front bottom corner of my flare. Its not a pinch weld, or anything metal. If I was to trim, it would be all plastic. Im not sure if I want to do that really...

It could be saggy old coils for sure...I did not get before and after measurements.

What about the tires looking off center, they are more forward in the wheel well than at stock height?

YES, Soft 8's 16x7 cant remember backspacing...

Yo quierro beans...lolol

Its not the wheel well plastic, but the lower valance, fender flare, bottom corner.

I will try and post pics as well....

Everybody who runs 285s has to do a little trimming and those who don't just never see dirt.

I havent done any trimming, I rub a bit only at full tuck... but im over 3" front and back too, I think Im at 41.5" in the back...

I can imagine with 9 wrap LC coils and a 2" body lift you wouldnt touch at all...

Did I forget to mention that i rub when TURNING...lol NOT while tucked or anything cool! If I have to take a really slow smooth turn to not run. and its mostly the right tire doing all this...

Trim

If it is the lower valence of your bumper on the front then you can use box cutters to cut the inside of the lower valence. That is what I did before I got my steel bumper.

I just trimmed the inside of the valence and you couldn't tell from the outside that it was cut at all.

My difference was that I had 16x8 wheels (not 16x7) and my front lift wasn't a spacer lift but a Tundra TRD coil with a Bilstien 5100 shock.

Good luck, hope it works out for you.

rubbing on the pinch weld? how about some picks of the wheel at different spots, turned all the way in, all the way out and then straight...
