Old Guys?

Well I guess I must be the oldest so far - I'll be 75 in five weeks.......

 :bravo:

I still get my twice monthly dose of wheeling - and once in a while when out on the trail I hike to the top of a moderate peak......

You, Sir, are embarrassing the rest of us (or just me) who aren't able to get out wheeling even once in the last 5 months! Hats off to you! :hatsoff:

you guys have me beat by a little bit. I feel like i should be closer to your age before I have a full knee replacement but it is happening this year.

Wow, I'm a year older than you, and I'm working on my knees as well. Damn cartilage likes to play Houdini. Not to mention the ACL & Meniscus tears! I'll be right there with you soon I'm afraid with the knee replacement.

I FEEL like I'm 68 LOL. Bad knees sure make you cranky too :mad2:

I'm not old, by any means. I turn 30 in January. Some days, i think to myself "better live out my days wisely, not much left". Then i put it in to perspective…hopefully i've only lived 1/3 of my life and thats seemed to take FOREVER.

Any tips for a young buck like me?

I generally don't feel old. But tonight is the exception, after low-siding the old Sportbike today. Moderate pain all over from the bumps and bruises, and even some road rash, through the leathers.

The worst is seeing the old girl rashed up. But, parts are already ordered to put her back to like new.

Wrecking a bike hurts no matter how old you are! I've low-sided 2 so far...one when I was 18, and another when I was 26. Both made my body hurt all over!

Yeah, crashing sucks. I don't know how many times I've crashed on dirtbikes, and a handful of times on roadrace tracks. I think this qualifies as my third get-off on the road. Two (including this one) were traction related, and one was a truck all the way over the centerline in my lane on a blind curve. I avoided the head-on with the moron, but had to run off the road to do it.

The good news is it's not wrecked, just a little rash on the right lower, the front cowling, front fender, mirror, and front brake lever. All the parts should be here within a week, and I'll swap them out and it will be like it never happened.

Moral of the story is wear good gear.

My Sidi boots are a little scuffed, but the parts that are scuffed are replaceable. My Held gloves have the slightest rounghness on the palms, but are fine. My knee puck took most of the abuse. Jacket has light rash on the sleeve, but not enough to worry about. My helmet didn't touch the ground.

The only abrasion I suffered was the epidermis on my knee, was ripped off down to the dermis. Basically there was enough pressure on my skin from the inside of my leathers, that it pulled the top layer of skin off. Not even much blood to speak of, but cleaned it and dressed it, and it'll be fine.

The other moral of the story is respect cool pavement, worn tires, and a very light covering of dirt on the bend in the road.

She'll be back to looking like this by the end of next week. And my aches should be a memory too.

Well shit, since u guys are all owning it, I'll be starting my 53rd lap around the nearest star in January. Always been young at heart. Wife says I'm a big kid... Guilty! Feel good. Some old injuries(mostly football). Two sons, 20 and 23, keep me on my toes. Hoping for at least another 20. :crutch:

Dealin with this arthritis crap has been a real bit^* more than anything it's the stuff you've taken for granted for yrs VERY humbling ! But beats alternative & having a son only fresh yr in college keeps me moving . But i'd like to be philsey that younger wife stuff sounds like fun :thumb: Momo let us know how the knee replacement goes in need of that myself but down time is like 2-3 months & that's to big of hit on the $$ right now ! Hell I remember when I was 20 something thinking wouldn't make it to 30 then just see 2000 roll over now who the hell knows just keep waking up ! :hippie::nicethread:

I see the world with a young man's brain, an old man's heart and a restless soul at 43. I had a lot of big life experiences at a very young age that most won't experience until 20 years after I did, so I have been older than I needed to be for a about 26 years. I am smart enough to know that I need to listen more and talk less when my elders are speaking though, so please carry on.

Do unto others ....etc.
Treat your woman with respect.
Live within your means.
Save and invest for retirement. Do not put this off.
Carry on.

To add to philsey's excellent list as advice to the younger guys:
"Give everything and expect nothing in return." (you're never disappointed)
"Life's not fair. Get over it."
"Take the long view on expectations."
"Ask yourself, is this the hill I want to die for?"

Those are the key points I have taught my (now adult) children from day one.
