Old Lady vs. Tailgate Chrome Trim

So at a red light I hear "Sir...sir..." I look around and this elderly lady approaches my diver side front window. I said hello to her with a puzzled look on my face. She said "You know that shiny piece on the back of your car? You need to cover that up". Keep in mind this is about 5pm on a sunny day today. She went on to tell me "It's too shiny. You need to cover that up with something. You need to put black duct tape over that piece". Meanwhile, I'm thinking, "Right. I'm going to put black duct tape on my truck lol". So I explained that I didn't make the piece look like that. It came from the factory so you should take it up with Toyota. She was hell bent on me covering that piece. She went on to tell me that I'm "blinding everyone". I had to then point out the time of day it was and if she looked around, she would notice a lot of sun glare coming from not only my truck but other vehicles as well haha. I guess karma hit quick because during my left handed turn, the car in front of me blasted my eyes with sun glare coming off of the driver's side view mirror. I just had to laugh and thought I'd share. Maybe some Plasti Dip in the works?

The old lady was trying to hint that you need to plasti dip that chrome. Lol Good story.

"Honey, I need to do a TE conversion on the 4Runner. All of this chrome simply isn't safe. It could blind other drivers. You don't want me to get hit by another car with our beautiful daughter in the back, right?"

You should have told the lady that it wasn't the sun reflecting off your chrome trim, it was the precluding signs of her oncoming stroke!

Sarcastic remarks aside, I would have not been too polite with that lady... I have a little patience with stupid people I don't like (its fun to keep a couple around to cheer you up! that doesn't make me a bad person does it? LoL) That has to be the most idiotic thing I have ever heard... depending on my mood I probably would have been tempted to back up over her vehicle because "the shiny part of the car in front of me confused me..." hmm... I might have some anti-social tendencies, oh well.

Good news, thanks to crazy cat lady that will be devoured by her thousands of cats when she has her chrome induced stroke, you should totally plastic-dip and/or cover that shiny trim up with a full metal rear bumper with tire swing out! :D

cbielat,

I think you might get in trouble if you go around spraying PlastiDip on everyone's mirrors.

Well come on now, she has a point... back in her day, cars only came in one color!

Well actually back in her day, weren't shiny solid chrome bumpers all the rage? So she shouldn't even be phased by a tiny little strip of chrome here. I'm not old enough to have any personal experiences from that era, we need the grandpas here to chime in and confirm :)

But I like the hidden campaign message here, "Plasti-dip saves lives."

Ah yes... I shouldn't have said cars. My mistake.

Horse-drawn carriages.

Awesome Antman! I really did laugh when I saw that. That's exactly what she must have been thinking lol!
