Hi, I just went and picked up my front coils.

My question is. I have a 2011 Trail with KDSS and it says on the OME website that I need an adaptor for the KDSS model. Do I really need to install that part ? Or it does not really matter. It said recommended.

I only ask because I don't want to wait .... and the part was in another truck that's why I didn't get both today FML patience.

Yes, you need the shim on the driver's side with kdss. That shim compensates for the Toyota lean. And be sure to do a zero pint calibration when you are done.

BTW, did you get the OME 884s or 885s?

Thank you. I got the 885's because I plan to install a second battery and I have my grill guard. Also for the future a winch will be needed there !
 
I need help ! At what settings should I put the 5100's in the front ? I had them at the highest setting but the OME coils are a lot long than the original ones ..

Now I am confused I want it leveled with the the rear which has 2 inch in the back. Should I lower it 1 ring or leave it at max ?

Set the fronts at 0 (bottom). The springs are good for 2" by themselves. I'm running 2" rear springs and the same 885's in the front in the picture below, with the shocks set at 0. I do have ~150 lbs of bumper and winch on the front.

Do the 885's set at 0 achieve a 2.5"+ lift if the truck didn't have a winch/steel bumper?

No, but if you set the 5100's at 0.85 they'll give you 2" + 0.85" = 2.85" of lift. Example above. calcrc tried to put his 2" taller 885's in with the shocks already set at 2.5", for a theoretical total of 4.5" of lift. It didn't want to play that way.

It's a STIFFER spring, so it holds MORE weight at a set level. This doesn't translate into making it a longer one with less weight. It means it will have a harsher ride with less weight. It's not rocket science folks. Try not to overthink it.

Sweet ! Thank you all. I set it a zero. Currently at the dealer waiting... will post pics tonight if I have time before it gets dark.

I have a grill guard that wheigh's around 70 pounds and I plan on adding a dual battery soon. I think it will look nice thats why I chose the 885's medium. And if I ever plan on doing winch it will be all set no need to change coils or settings on the bilsteins.
 
Just an FYI, but after a 2nd battery AND a winch you may need to upgrade to 887's. I'm at the upper limit of my 885's with ~150 lbs of bumper and winch. My winch alone is 95 lbs.
 
I must be a wussy. I thought my stock 4Runner on 884s (550lbs./in.) was too harsh and stiff. I wanted something smoother. ARB told me I need a bull bar to help it.

Now, I thought 885s (600lbs./in.) on the FJ with an ARB bumper, winch, skids, sliders, rack etc. was near perfect.

Before that, I did try 700lbs./in. (a step above 886s, 650lbs./in.) on my Tacoma and the only suspension that flexed was the tire side walls. I broke UCAs.

And I understand the 887s are just taller versions of the 885s. Am I correct?
 
If I read the above link correctly the 887's are 5th gen 4Runner specific, and the 886's were for the 4th Gen. But I had the impression they were all 2" only and spacers were needed for 3.

884s on my stock 4Runner gave me 2.5"s. 885s on my loaded FJ gave me 2.5"s. When I pulled the winch my FJ was near 3"s and got too harsh for me. But I am a wussy.

They stopped selling 886s for FJs because they broke UCAs.

I have not know anyone with 887s just what I saw at ARBUSA.com.
