So I just did the rear of a 96 with OME 861 springs (no lift replacements for the front of a LC) and it has lifted the rear 6 full inches, please tell me they will settle! I used 33187174 bilsteins, it flexes well, but good god its high!

There was little to no sag with the stock suspension, all 4 wheel arches measured close to 35" from the ground.

From what I remember the OME 861 are the HD stock height LC coils. So with an empty rear end you are going to stick to right around the height you are at. Those coils are looking to carry lots of front end weight on a LC (plate bumper/winch)

I bet they ride pretty rough too. If you have no plans on running weight in the back, or have plans to run 35's in the future, I think you might need a different coil.

agreed.

why on earth would you use those coils on your runner!?

those are used only for guys who are running a ton of weight in the back, like yeah almost literally a ton. i tip the scales daily at around 5100-5500lbs depending on fuel, and how many people are in my truck, thats before i really load it down with gear. and i have pretty close to a 50/50 weight split.

those coils should ONLY be used if you have armor and a rear bumper and or carry a tremendous load or tow daily.

no those will not settle, maybe 1/4" but i doubt that with your rig, there is no weight to settle them.

get a set of OME 891s

Ok.. I am running 861s and 285-70r17s maxxis bighorns.. No... They absolutely do not ride too rough when loaded or unloaded as mine is daily driven and weekend wheeled. I can see why some people do not want the extra rake, but I love the stance on mine. It works just fine for me but you can take the advice from others who do not have 861s or never had them and they can suggest the coils, shocks, etc they used so your 4runner can be more like theirs. Mod your 4runner however you like.. These coils are 100% functional daily driving and wheeling and flex great..
Here's a few pix of my dd POS with the 861s all pics no bumpers or Tons of weight in the back.. Couple dogs, tow straps, tools, shovels, metal detector, quart of oil, funnel, nothing that busts the scale.. I never let someone else sway my decision on the parts or mods I choose since there is literally an array of built 4runners on here all running different shocks, coils, tires, etc .. It would be boring to see everyone with the same setups. I really don't care if anyone besides me likes my truck so here it is :)

Lol.. We are not the only people here running the OME 861s.. Your 4runner will look a lot better with a bigger tire and also they will not settle a lot but they are a good off road coil as well as most any others that are talked about on here more like the 891s that are more popular..

Once you lift the front it will level out a bit and look similar to Dee3's. I feel like lifting the front not only lifts the front, but also rebalances the vehicle by pushing/placing force back towards the rear a bit, not a ton, but some (definately more than now haha). It will look and feel better once you lift the front.

Like others, I only upgraded to 861's after adding a cbi rear bumper with tire carrier, 285 spare and two jerry cans. I also carry my tools and gear in the back most of the time, have a roof top tent, skids and sliders etc... The ride actually feels softer than my tundra 5100's up front with the weight. Flex is awesome, I did ditch my rear sway as well.

With no weight (in your case), you will achieve the same rake and lift results as I have and others running this setup with weight and 861's, by going with 891's or LC 7.5 wrap coils instead. The benefit of doing this will be a smoother ride. I (my personal preference) would only stick with the 861's if you plan to put a rear bumper on there in the near future or put some weight back there in the interim. It really just depends on your ride preference. Some people actually prefer a stiffer/sportier ride, so go with what you want and live and learn if need be. You can always trade someone on the forum for some 891's when they want to go up to 861's.

I do carry a lot of wood in the back at times and these springs really help with that. I also plan to get a rear bumper and add more weight to mine. I've only had this 98 4runner around 10,000 miles and 9 months so it is a work in progress. The flex in those pics was with the stock rear sway bars still hooked up and now it has new front links in the rear as I do a lot of highway driving and twisty roads I keep it hooked up.

Hey thanks. Yours looks good too. I like these springs. I've had no issues with them and they are about as high as coils will get a 3rd gen in the rear and still be good for daily driving as I do a few 250mile round trips weekly and wheel whenever I can. Yours will look great with tires.

So after lifting the front, I think I will keep the 861s in there has about a 2 inch rake, and rides real nice.

What are your center of hub to fender measurements...? I think a larger tire (yours look to not even be 265/75/16) will fill that gap pretty well, but it's still going to be TALL in the back. If that's what you like though, it's whatever.

I also run the 861's and I love them, but I carry a good bit of weight (cargo box, rear bumper with full size spare, hi-lift, and jerry can).
