OME 881/906 Rear Too High!

This was supposed to be level on my 2001. Any thoughts to level other than small spacers up front or weight in rear?

Did you replace the shocks up front as well? I actually ordered the OME 880's for the front of my truck along with the "adjustable" Bilstein 5100's underneath (Bilstein 24-248730). In the rear I am installing OME 906's with Bilstein 5100's as well.

I ordered the kit for the front from Wheeler's offroad, including their coil over build service, and based on their feedback my fronts are set to the lowest cup setting for the Bilstein front shocks. Initially they told me I'd be level with this setup, but then followed up to tell me that with an empty truck the 880's would have about a half inch rake (elevated front to back), and that 881's would get me to level. I chose to continue with the 880's because I don't mind a little rake in that direction if it gets me more level when the rear hatch is full of gear. My truck is still tore apart, so I'm not sure exactly how it's going to look just yet, but if everything holds true to what I was told I'm sure it'll look just fine.

If you're using a different shock I'm not sure what the solution would be, but spacers may be a reasonable solution.

If the rake is not that bad, as-is, you have to decide if you want a more level ride empty or under load.

I put 881s upfront and 906 in back. Stock shocks. The back is about 2” higher than the front. I went to Home Depot and put in four 40 pound bags of wood pellets behind the rear seats and the truck rides smoother but I swear it has not gone down an inch.

I also have noticed that the truck seems to ride stiffer with these springs. That’s why I put the extra weight in the back to see if it changed the ride or the hide. Any recommendations for a softer spring that sits about an inch lower? I am not towing anything.

The ride settles. What do you mean stock shocks? I put Bilstein 4runner specific shocks and the 906 springs and it rides perfect.

Yeah I'll jump back in here. I can't speak to how the OME springs look, or ride, with stock shocks on all 4 corners (on my old truck I'd done the 5100 / 906 combo in the rear, but I hadn't upgraded the fronts before I sold it, and there was a noticeable rake). Wheelers offroad assured me that at the most with my combo of BIL 5100's and OME 880/906's I'd only have about a half inch rake front to back, and actually said the 881's would level out with no load.

My new truck is still tore up in my garage, and on jackstands, so I can't attest to the validity of the Wheeler folks statement, nor the ride quality, but I think the quote from YotaGuy93 provides real life experience for you...

The good news is that the 5100 fronts are height adjustable (but have to be unpressed / repressed), so if it is much worse than what they've told me I may be able to mitigate the rake by getting them adjusted, but I will let the new springs break in before I start to think about anything like that.

The spring combo you have DEFINITELY shouldn't have a 2" difference front to rear. Something is wrong. Shocks have nothing to do with the actual lift you have. If anything you might have a slight reverse rake with the 881s as they are the HD version of the 880 and are used if you have a AM bumper and/or winch in the front. Need to see some pictures to understand what is going on. Closeups of the rear perches (top and bottom) and the front coilovers would be great.

Pic in signature.

Here is mine with the 880/906 combo and 5mm trim packer with the wheelers 4Runner Bilstein 5100s. It has about .5 inch of take after settling for 9+ months. Rides nicely too.

I have the 4runner BS 5100 adjustable set on the 3rd highest with stock springs and 906 w/ BS 5100 with two 10mm trim packers and it's even, with some weight form camping gear the front is higher.

As someone said you shouldn't have 2" difference especially since you have the 881's up front.

How are you measuring? Using the running boards or wheel well (wrong way to measure)?

If anything, you can pick up the BS51000 adjustable for $100 and that should fix it. The 906 are going to be stiffer than stock especially if you are using the stock shocks.

We need some measurements from the center of the wheel to the fender lip, front and rear to see where you are at...

I have ran the 881/906 with OME shocks for the past year and a half. It sits with just a bit of rake but I did install 1 trim packer per side. Photo is with 31" tires for reference. The 906s are fairly stiff and did settle a bit for me. They handled additional weight quite well when loaded up. Fairly difficult to address what too high is without a photo or hub measurement. Personally like the look with a little rake but to each their own.

2906 is a heavy weight spring, it will provide 2" of lift with 330lbs of added rear weight, otherwise it sits around 4"

You can run ARB OME95PF5 5mm front spacers for a bit more lift.

Your sig says you have 881/890 springs. Compared to all the pics I've seen of 906 springs they give you a very subtle lift in the rear even when new. The pic your showing really looks like a 3" lift like the 890s provide. Could you clarify?

I am the OP with the 881/906 combo that sits with a slight rake and stiff ride. I am looking for a level stance and a softer ride, but appears that going with the 890 will only give a softer ride but a steeper rake-correct? How can I get that level stance and softer ride than with the 906s?

You said you had a 2" difference which is by no means a slight rake. I really think you need to figure out why that difference exists first. The 881s with 906s should be fairly level on it's own. Might be a stiff ride but should be fairly level.

I have the TRD Tundras with 890s and I have about a 1/2" of rake which is perfect for me.

I think if you want a softer ride in the rear you'll probably have to look at another kind of spring other than OME unless you want a taller lift.

Still waiting for some pictures...

The photo above was running the 881/906 before I put on 265s. This did include one OME trim packer per side. I ran that setup for well over a year and just put on the with the 890s and new wheels/tires the past few months. Photo of the current stance with 881/890s 4" bs steels and 265 Milestar Patagonia M/T.

Here is a better idea before the change in wheels/tires but with 890s(265s A/T)

Here's the photo that shows the rake I have with 881/906. I would not mind the rake so much if it drove less stiff. Sounds like going to 890 will help the ride but increase the rake.

What if I used Bilstein 5100 ratcheted up and stock coils? Could I level it and soften the ride?
