OME BP-51 Suspension System -- Anyone yet?

Would love to hear more about this lift. Ride quality, more pictures, etc. Glad someone finally installed these.

I think a good number of us have installed this kit with no regrets. My biggest draw was the kit working around stock components like the UCA. I'll change my UCA at some point, but didn't want to do it right away. Adjustable compression and rebound, internal bypass with reservoirs, what's not to love!

Are there enough threads to lower down the front to only a 2" or so lift? any idea what spring rate those are? I'm assuming around 580-600lb/in.

Spoke to ARB today

Been lurking, just joined.

While I am debating a few options for a lift/suspension upgrade on my 2016 TE I don't want to hijack this thread.

I tried ordering this earlier today and 4wp said they didn't think it would work with KDSS. Before you rip on me I know this has been done and 4wp's reputation.

I then reached out to a tech at ARB and spoke for a good 30 mins (he put me on hold and spoke with marketing), here is the rundown:

- they are working on perfecting the sway bar spacer and optimizing the valving and coil spring rate for the 4Runner
- getting ready to release, should be Feb or March
- dependencies:
- Waiting for off tool sample
- verify optical sample
- final stage approved within the next month
- Feb-March official release
- $800 per front $500 per rear fit kit + rear springs on top of that
- $2500-3000 all in
- check back mid-jan or feb for part numbers
- contact dealer to get on back order once part #s available

I know we have all read that the 4Runner specific is coming for quite some time.

My question is, should I hold off and spend my dough on the perfect setup or is the FJ setup good enough? The unfortunate part is that it is winter and I can't size up to an appropriate snowflake tire without spending $800 on something that I will only use for 3 months before I drop this amazing suspension in. This means limitations on the BC roads I can drive - and it is ski season.

Hoping the 4Runner gods are smiling upon me and you can bring some sage advice.

Really curious after I saw your picture just "how" this works without a new UCA and 3" of lift vs. others?

I thought it was inevitable that all 3" lifts required a new UCA.... I'm intrigued

(none) I adjusted my preload to 12mm of thread from 20mm (bumper, battery, winch) and there is still more to go. I couldn't say for certain that you could get all the way down to 2" but maybe.
Apogeo I also contacted ARB about this set up before I pulled the trigger, I don't have KDSS so brackets and relocation items weren't of importance to me, but the valving differences I was a little concerned. However they're rebuild able, so once I've put them through the paces and if everyone says that the ride is significantly different with specific 4Runner valving I'll consider having them rebuilt. Frankly I can't see it being that different, and being able to fine tune them with compression and rebound now satisfies my need for tinkering.

I also pulled the front sway bar off about a day after installing and hit the trail.
Trail-AMMO All the videos and interviews ARB did on the set up from their Australian friends all did the install and tests on stock components. As far as the science and why, I have no idea other than aboriginal black magic and drones from the didgeridoo. All the angles and cv joints, spindles are all looking good in the front. I'll try to take some pictures when I get home.

Spenny, thanks for the prompt reply with your setup. I think I will wait for the KDSS specific application just to be safe and "buy once, cry once"

Will look into some snowflake tires in a tall skinny layout in order to, hopefully, clear stock while accommodating the lift in a few months. I am in the minority preferring tall/skinny anyways.

If you're planning on truly using it the lift doesn't provide real clearance improvement anyway, just static clearance. Personally, I'd get the tires pre-lift, do the work to make them clear, then get the lift when it's released. Well, that IS the way I'm going. :) Although my 275/70s aren't really an issue.

I ran 255/80 17's for months before doing the lift and also went 4wheeling quite a bit and had zero rubbing. I only got a little rub on the front when I put some 1.25" spacers on.

Liquidmantis - thanks for the input, I am doing the same (see below reply to spenny)
Spenny - that's the route I am taking. Just ordered 5 x 255/75/17
KO2s. Had to source them from 3 different dealers to get them together for install up here in Canada - apparently these are just about the only remaining stock up here.

TL;DR version

While our tire prices 'North of the Wall' seem comparable or better ($220 cdn = $164.95 usd), suspension and installation are outlandishly more expensive - I was quoted $950 just for installation and alignment of suspension.

Thankfully the company I work for has me visiting their Seattle office bi-weekly so will try to buy/install while spending the day there - not to mention (hopefully) avoiding duty + sales tax by driving the installed product across the border

If anyone can recommend a mechanic in the Seattle area (or anywhere North/slightly South) I would be greatly appreciative. ARB recommended 4wp, I am suspect of their work and may have some tweaks done when I get back home.

Love the avatar!! I lived in Panama for 4 years and mantises (manti??) were a daily visitor. Many a time I have had them on my finger, they twerk to the music if there is some in the background.

Sorry to totally hijack his thread.. I swear I didn't mean it to become another tire/praying mantis thread!

After driving them in Panama I searched high and low for a way to get a Prado or HiLux D4D up here, alas, I am now in a 4Runner TE.

Mule Expedition Outfitters in Issaquah are awesome. They are located about 20-30 min from Seattle. Solid shop and fair prices. I've visited them a few times while I was still living in Seattle and have been very satisfied with their customer service and work.

FedEx dropped mine off on Friday. Should have them in by mid-week next week. I'll post before/after measurements once it's done.

In the meantime, I'll share these scans of the fitting instructions. Hadn't been able to find them anywhere, so figured I'd post them up.

Owner's manual file was too big to upload so linking to Google Drive here.

why are all of you being such p*ssies about this?! I've been running the BP-51 setup for over a year with ZERO issues. and my truck has KDSS... just finished taking it all off this morning since I'm trading my 2014 w 70k miles on it for a brand new one... going to throw the BP-51 setup right back on when I get home next weekend. GO AND BUY IT ALREADY and stop waiting for a "4runner specific" application...

Which coils have you used in the rear for that BP51 system?

cheers

Andreas

I went with the 895E Light/ Stock Load rear coils. After bumper upgrade in the future, I'm sure I'll bump up to heavier load coils. Right now they are perfect - even when loaded down for camping.

Following up on my prior post:

Shout out to Scott@Hightech from gtpeaceauto.com for doing the install and being an awesome guy. Anyone that's anywhere close to the Northern Virginia/DC metro area looking for a 4runner-specific shop should give him a call or connect through the forum. This was my first experience with Scott and gtpeace, but anything in the future that's outside my depth (or time availability) will be going through him.

-- As promised, pre/post install measurements attached below --
