OME BP-51 Suspension System -- Anyone yet?

I just came across the BP-51 and I was really interested n this set up since everyone seem to like the OEM... but after reading this thread seems like they're not a good option? Has the issue been resolved or should I look elsewhere for another suspension kit? (2016 trail premium with KDSS, stock suspension for now).

Until recently, the OME BP-51's were designed for the FJ Cruiser. Yet, many were installing on 5th Gen 4Runners.

OME now has 2 kits for the 5th Gen 4Runner, Non-KDSS;

The current hotness is King Shocks so all others must pale in comparison.

Seriously, what are you looking for? Something to look good or offroad performance (e.g. crawling, high-speed)?

King and ICON are still leading the pack for sure.

FOX 2.5's are right there as well.

It's definitely great to have options.

What is the reason this kit does not work with kdss? Plenty of Prados, and land cruisers have kdss and run similar kits...

Definitely not crazy rock crawling. We do a lot of service road driving (at 35-45mph) and the KDSS currently does the job extremely well. But I'd like to gain 1-2" lift for better clearance and also the ability to eventually add more weight (which and front bumper, probably a roof rack too) in the future. Not really looking for ICON stage 10. That sounds very expensive and too much for my needs. Maybe Icon 2, at the most. But looking for something comparable.

I also came across with Dobinson, they look like a great set up as well, and at a reasonable price

I’m going to bump this thread back to the top. I ordered the full BP-51 kit from Toltec in Wednesday and am trying to decide if I need to buy new UCAs to get my caster in line. As the thread mentioned earlier, OME says that they developed this to work with thre factory units; however, it sounds like people are having better luck with replacement UCAs.

I’m looking at the ICON Delta Joints, Rancho and Camburg Units. The Icons have a long lead time and shitty customer service so I’m ruling them out. Out of the remaining two, I would like the Camburgs, but I’m also concerned about the reports that some folks aren’t getting their caster in line even with the new units.

What is everyone else’s takes? Have you guys all bought new UCAs? If you bought Camburgs, were you able to get your caster to ~+4%?

FWIW, I had SPC UCAs on my 100-series LC with no issues and have them now on my 4Runner with BP-51s and they are set for 4 degrees of caster.

What is the desired lift you want, what size tires do want to run, what is the offset/backspacing of your wheels, what weight front and rear are you running (bumpers, etc) lot of factors...

I'm looking for ~2.5" of lift in the front and 2" in the rear (889 OME Coils) and will be runnign 275/70 KO2 on the stock TRD Off Road wheels. The weight on the front and rear is stock at the moment; however, I will be adding skids and sliders down the road.

This is a DD for the most part, but it will be going to the sand dunes here in Michigan and I also tow a travel trailer so stability is very important to me.

I'm trying to stick with ball joint UCA's since Michigan winters would destroy Uniballs in 5 seconds flat.

you might get your alignment in spec, I’d try it then see how it drives. That’s where I was height wise, it drove ok, though is better with Camburg UCA’s and I think my caster is at 3.7 now.

Got ya, and agree on the uniballs there

I run 51's but my setup is very different. IMO, you would be fine with OEM UCAs, however, you will need to deeply dial in the preload because the front coilovers are set for 230lbs of addtl weight IIRC and the springs are sstiff.

For reference, I'm 160lbs addtl up front and a tad over a 3in lift up front on the factory preload. I run TC UCAs and offset the caster 3.8 to 4+ish for road crown which has been fine for me.

Bottom-line, it's doable if you are someone knows what they are doing and the information is relayed right

2010 On Toyota 4Runner BP-51 Suspension

http://www.arbusa.com/Uploads/PDF/newProductAdvice/2018/2010_On_4Runner_BP51.pdf

ARB 4X4 Accessories is proud to announce BP-51 Suspension Kits for 5th Generation Toyota 4Runner applications.
Bring race technology to your adventures with OME’s BP-51 suspension kit, featuring revolutionary patent-pending technology developed to deliver unparalleled on and off road performance.
These bolt-on, big bore, position sensitive internal bypass shock absorbers have been developed and tested to provide exceptional ride comfort around town with significant amounts of end-zone damping for exceptional chassis control and handling off road.
BP-51 shock absorbers provide greater levels of damping at each end of the stroke based on position and velocity of the piston. This provides a comfortable and compliant ride during normal driving, improved control over challenging terrain and prevents harsh topping/bottoming out through bumpy roads. Damping performance is easily adjustable across a wide range in both rebound and compression, allowing the driver to customize the vehicle’s ride performance for road conditions, vehicle load scenarios and personal preference.
The body, reservoir and components are all made from aircraft grade (6061 T6) aluminum, with a type 3, 40 micron hard anodized finish, ensuring exceptional heat dissipation and resistance to corrosion and stone damage.
Designed, developed, tested and manufactured entirely in-house by ARB’s team of Old Man Emu Engineers to guarantee the highest possible quality, all BP-51 shock absorbers come with a 3-year/37,000 mile warranty.

Finally installed them this weekend. What’s everyone’s settings?
