OME or FJ coils?

I am wanting to do a 3" lift. I really like the look of the 3/2 cornfed. I currently have XREAS and am wanting to get rid of it a replace with 5100's.

With that said, should I go with OME/Bilstein or FJ/Bilstein/Spacers?

I have been reading all the lift threads for about a week now and cannot make up my mind. I want to do it right the first time and not regret it.

Do I just need the OME coils and 5100's and thats it or what all do I need or need to do to achieve that lift?

Depends on condition of original strut tops etc that you'd need to transfer over to get the OME coil on the 5100s. I had Wheelers Offroad preassemble mine with new parts so when they showed up, I ripped the old crap out and threw the new fronts in like a coilover setup. It was like $150 or so parts and labor but well worth it in terms of time saved and a lack of hassle fighting with old parts which may end up being worn out anyways.

So if I did what you did with all new parts then it would be a full 3"?

Also would I need new UCA's?

Lmao, I got more than 3. My front fenders are almost at 40". I just had an alignment done and they couldn't get the front caster any more than 1.5 when ideally it should be closer to 4. So, UCAs would be a good idea but you can live without them depending on tire size. You should definitely spend a lot of time reading the 4th gen suspension FAQ sticky. I literally read it start to finish a few times and it will answer most questions. I went with 885s anticipating a front bumper but you could put in the 884s which have the same spring rate but are 10mm shorter and if you have a V6, will get you right around 3 inches with the 5100s at the "0" setting.

I've been thinking about the 884's since I won't get a bumper. I REALLY don't want to have to gt UCA's though.

I didn't want to spend the money on them either but the reality of my tire choice necessitates them and I don't like half assing stuff so I'm doing it. Get a lifetime alignment from Firestone and go back after each mod to have them get it as close to where you want it for free.

Part of the reason I can't decide is because all the places I have looked that sell the coils all advertise a different lift amount. Even here on the site it's different and I just don't want to put it on and have it be too much lift.

hence read the stickies and see what the actual results are from owners who have tried different combinations.

i did fj coils and spacers of 5100s. rides great but buy ome. i plan on doing 885s in the near future

 As someone who did the FJ lift, I have to agree with the above.

IMO spacers are a half-assed way of lifting. If you really need a lift, do it right.

FWIW, I got barely an inch of lift out of my FJC. I think if I had to do it over again I probably would have gotten the OME to begin with.

Although I sometimes wish I'd gone for the OME, I'm OK with what I have now. I don't need much lift and since my T4R spends more time pulling a trailer than not, less lift is better for me. But if you need 3", get the OME.

Also look at the Toytec Springs/Boss shock setup. I've had ome, bilsteins, and now toytec boss. Like to boss ride the best.

yup all of this. i started with a spacer lift, then did the FJ with a 1/4 top plate, and still wish i went ome all the way. i have 3" of lift but have done it two different ways. if you want 5100's, go ome

@bantiss556, you have 90k miles on your runner. When begin your lift, you are going to realize that you need new sway arm bushings, end links as well as new ball joints. It's the nature of the suspension beast. To me, the FJ coils are a waist of time as you will not get much lift. That being said, going with a full 3", I cannot recommend enough, going to with new, aftermarket UCA's. You are going to have trouble getting your caster into spec, otherwise. Not too mention, you will kill your lower ball joints way faster without them. The bottom line is, if you want a true 3" of lift, and you do not want to "half-ass" it, you'll need to drop an additional $500.00 on all of the parts I just listed, in addition to the springs and shocks. Once it is done, however, you will be happy as a puppy with two peckers! You're suspension will feel new, tight and bomb proof.... my two cents!

Yeah, if I ever decide to lift my 4runner any more than it is, I'll definitely go with new UCA's. No sense in being penny wise and pound foolish.

Or, as the saying goes, buy the best and cry once, don't buy the cheapest and then cry multiple times.

I think I'm going with the Toytec on the rear. Will I need a spacer(s)? I keep reading about leaning on the drivers side.

Should I go with the Toytec Superflex for the rear instead of the 895?

That's what I went with and was very happy with them. Make sure you DON'T get the HD coils though. They will lift the rear end almost 5 inches if you don't have additional weight in the back.
