OME springs on TRDP shocks

Wondering if anyone has had any success with this or if anyone has any ideas how it might perform.

Asked a local shop what they thought about heavier duty eibach springs combined with front/rear bumpers+winch and TRDP suspension. The guy suggested OME as the only springs that would offer a quality ride with the extra weight. Kind of surprised me. He suggested the 3" lift which would max out the TRDP shocks. Kind of wondering what kind of strain that extra force might put on the shocks.

I have a toytec leveling kit... just ripped out the rear and put OME 898. It's a little canted right now, but I'm sure it will settle soon. It handles fine. A little stiffer, but nothing wild.

my experience with OME springs is that they are decent for brief period of time. Mine sagged out pretty badly in less than a year. I ended up upgrading to an eibach/metaltech set up and wish I'd had the foresight to go that way originally.
Pushing a stock length shock body to 3" of lift is getting pretty close to the limit of it's capabilities, and you will end up topping it out on down travel if you plan to do any sort of wheeling.

Are you talking about upgrading the fronts or the rears?

For the fronts, the OME springs are designed to work with OEM spring perches whereas the TRD shocks use standard coilover perches. In short, OME front springs will not work. The rears should be fine, but I'd avoid anything over a 2" lift in the rear with the TRDP shocks as you won't have enough down travel.

The TRD front springs are standard 3" ID coilover springs. The TRDP OEM Spring is rated around 550-600LBs, and it's a 13" spring. For a slightly heavier load you can run Icon 650LB springs, which are also 13" length so you can increase your load capacity without a lift. For heavier loads try changing out to Eibach or King 700LB springs but they run 14" so you'll get a small lift. The 14" springs are very commonly found.

Rather than swapping out springs I opted to change out the front shocks to Bilstein 6112 (which are the same as the TRDP shocks but with added height adjustability). I kept the rear TRDP shocks and added Toytec Superflex springs.

Hope that helps.

Thread revival but looking into this myself right now.

TRD Pro stock coils are 3" ID, 13" length. Should be 550# springs IIRC.

King offers a 3" ID x14" 700# springs that should work?

Currently have the Toytec Pro lift (front is just spacers). Looking at adding a an ARB bumper/winch soon. Not crazy about spacers but don't wanna shell out $ for new coilovers (what I have now won't handle addition bumper/winch weight)

Swapping coils would be a great option if it worked.

The 700# will work. I purchased 650# springs since the Demello bumper is quite a bit lighter vs the ARB. Keep in mind your ride will be a bit stiffer and CV boots a little questionable if you run these without any added weight.

You're going to have a hard time getting a 14" spring on a stock length TRD shock (usually have to be into a mid travel setup before you start to see 14" coils). Provided you can actually get it mounted, you're going to be limited how much compression you can get before the spring starts to bind or deflect, and I can pretty much promise you will top out that shock on droop

So you swaped out factory TRD Pro coil with a King #650?
How much lift did that provide with bumper installed? Any pics?

I did. Beautiful rig. No coil swamp in there though. Swapping of trd pro shocks for 6112 then purchased King coilovers with 700# coil.

Never swapped, by the time I had the time to change everything up it made more sense to switch over to the custom valved Kings on account of the load I was running.

The springs are 100% direct replacements with the exception of being 1" taller. If you have enough weight to run the 650#, it should yield a 1-2" lift due to the added spring height. It's a pain but you can always adjust the circlip down a notch to offset it.

Thanks for the reply. I'd definitley have enough weight. The new ARB bumper (191lbs) plus a 9500 lb winch. My options are King 700# coil swap or just get a set or King coilovers. Obviously cost wise the coils are the way to go but it seems like a guessing game on what the final height with added weight will be. Not being the 6112's I wont have the adjustability either, other than 1 clip and possibly a spacer?

Here in Canada it's a $200 vs $2000 difference. I'm also worried about droop and uptravel if just swapping coils.

I already have the Toytec 2" "Pro" lift installed (just a spacer). The idea was to remove it and return to stock, add the #700 coils and with bumper/winch be at 2-2.5" of lift. Seems like a gamble to have it all workout.
