One month and 1500 miles later...

Mine is equipped with KDSS and it whips corners pretty good. It does have the harley davidson nose dive, springs are too soft up front but it rides nice.

on a side note I took possession of the wrong 4runner when I left the dealer that first day and the other one had the dunlop tires which had a nice stiff sidewall. No boat feeling.

@OP The answer, AS ALWAYS, is "it depends".

1. What's your use? Do some really need a stronger/firmer shock? Sure. But remember that a shock is just a damper, and what it's for. The 4R is also softly sprung - designed to the majority of owners. If you really want this big, heavy, truck to act like a smaller, tighter vehicle you'll have to up the spring game too.

2. What's in your wallet? For me, the ride was too cushy, a tad sloppy, but I'm not willing to redesign the suspension with the associated costs/headaches that I read about DAILY. So - Bang-For-The-Buck = 5100s.
Bonus = My fronts are set at .85 'cause I didn't like the rake esthetic. Bonus 2 = quick, easy, reasonable, reliable, 75% improvement with 0% headache which works for me and many others.

Oh, and they will NOT fix brake dive! Help? Sure, <50%. Again, springs.

Cornering? C'mon, it's not a Miata. Be real.

EDIT: And Michelin LTX sure didn't hurt anything either.

Silly me, expecting my SUV to handle like a Miata because, let's face it - nothing screams " I have large testicles " louder than being behind the wheel of a Miata.

/kneels and begs forgiveness

What's interesting is that I find the ride to be kind of rough (ORP w/ KDSS). I am on C rated AT3s but I doubt that is the cause. I think it's just that I came from a much more stable HWY vehicle and the 4R kind of floats after you hit a patch of rough road - which is every 10 feet in Denver.
Going offroad this weekend and next so my thoughts may change. Also, I'm at less than 400 miles.

Planning on going to the 6112/5160 set up with Dobinson springs after I install the C4 bumper (so, probably in the spring).

What pressure are you running in the C rated AT3s?

If you need a large vehicle to tell people you have large testicals then you don't have them.

..on my first T4R: 2017 SR5 Premium -

Not a bad transition from an F-150, had no more need for a truck.

Brakes - kinda mushy but they do the job, almost accustomed to the brake and gas pedals being up each others butts...

Stability - I thought I had bought a brand new vehicle with shocks that were shot!

The nose diving on hard braking and the body roll on cornering is pretty f-in pathetic and nowhere near what I had expected from my first Toyota. This is a major let-down.

But overall, I'm pleased and clearly.....a replacement set of shocks in is my very near future.

Some body roll can be mitigated by replacing rubber sway bar bushings with poly: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/231751-poly-sway-bar-bushings-3.html#post2589335. Low cost and worked great on my non-KDSS '14 TEP.

People like them because they are cheap and they can still get some lift out of them and claim it's a "mod". The shocks suck and for that matter so do the 6112's in my opinion. After buying a new 4Runner, a lot of these people have no extra cash and rather than save up for a good suspension setup, they just want the "quick and now" fix. Enter the 5100's...... If you will notice, on many of the threads where people are taking about getting/installing them, they are always quick to mention how cheap they were able to get all 4 of them.

I KNOW RIGHT? All these LOSERS with no disposable money to drop on REAL MODS like expensive shocks and springs and shit (note: still effectively the same modification as 5100's), JUST PATHETIC. How dare they appreciate an economical change (modification) for the benefit of everyday driving which is what 99.9% of 4runner users do with their vehicles on a day to day basis! Unbelievable I tell you! BAN THEM ALL

Little emotional huh? Maybe go take a lil nap and come back to the mean ole interwebs later.

And they don't even have dangerous dogs to take on walks either.

Not at all - for one, my suspension is stock, and secondly I don't really care what people do to their vehicles - if they think a modification suits their needs, then I'm not one to judge. I just find it funny you're clowning on these people who are making, from what I can tell, a pretty rational decision because... they might not be able to afford a "better" suspension setup? Or maybe because people like to list their 5100s under a list of "mods" somewhere on the internet but it doesn't fit your definition of REAL modifications?

Just felt like highlighting that for the masses is all.

What's wrong with cheap? 5100's with OME coils are a good upgrade from stock....... We might not all be rich like you seem to be. And maybe people need to go gradually and learn in the process ?!? Noob.

I have mine for about 2 years now and they are perfect for fishing/hunting and camping trips. Also to work... Noob.

Now getting a new bumper so I will upgrade to OME coils and Nitrochargers all four. Is that ok with you Mister Rich Arrogant Prince-ess ?
