One more Bilstein 5100 front lift, 0 rear lift question.

I wanted to post up my alignment info - I know all trucks are different but this will give you an idea how even the .85 lift changes everything

Sorry Toyota could not give me a color copy today but most know how to read these.

As promised, Pics and measurements

I posted a similar post over at the thread that showed us "how to" do this KDSS stuff :)

My 4Runner is a 2016 TEP w/KDSS

This is the thread I am thanking

http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-g...ation-kdss-equipped-vehicles.html#post1525561

Ok I knocked mine out this morning and......

Took 3.5 hours and thats with coffee, texting and just taking my time.

I almost feel bad..... One of the easiest mods I've ever done. I know I owe it to this thread though, I read it over a few times and the referenced thread and like always I came up with a game plan....Now sometimes my game plans turn to SH@! and fully expected this one too just because the KDSS was unknown territory for me.

I wanted to thanks the OP and all others who contributed. I just followed the steps as they are presented and it all went well, much better than expected.

Mounting the KDSS sway bar back literally took me 10 mins. before I jacked up the truck I did ratchet strap the KDSS piston at its current position.... after I installed the shocks etc and lowered the truck to the ground I literally did not have to move the passenger sway bar mount, it just went right back together, the drivers side took a little bit of manipulation but nothing like I had thought.

One thing I did that I did not see throughout the threads is I did not waste time pulling the spring out, just the shock, I used 2 zip ties through the damper rod hole and through the spring to hold it in place just until I fed the new shock back up, then cut the zip ties and finished feeding up the shock mated with the spring.

I also marked the spring (prob not necessary) but I did it anyway, I wanted it back in the same position as the factory placed it, thats me though.

I will post pics

I went with .85 on the bilsteins and got about 1.5" of lift and I think if I had went 1.75 Id be cussing at negative rake right now.

Ive already lifted plenty of toyotas, 6" to 10" etc, re-geared blah blah, I really want to keep this 4Runner close to stock but that rake was killing me.

Drove it about 50 miles, after about 200 more miles I will get it aligned

(And yes my 4Runner has been undercoated if you see that gunk everywhere)

It now sits just about perfect

Thanks again everyone!

excuse my ghetto boards lol

Answered almost every question I had in just one post! I have the 2017 TRD Off Road in White and I'm not quite ready for a full suspension lift, but the stock rake is driving me nuts..also I plan on upsizing my tires so I could use the extra clearance.

I was thinking of going with the 5100s in front and nothing in the rear, that is what you did correct? If so, how is your ride quality? has it improved at all with the 5100s? and would you have done anything differently?

Thanks again for the great post!

I posted this in the Bilstein 5100 thread, hope it helps.

Got the Bilstein 5100's front and rear installed today and an alignment fronts set at .85" no other spacers etc 265/70/17 General Grabber AT2s. The Bils firmed up the ride a little the biggest benefit is the significantly reduced nose dive when braking, it's hard to tell from the pics the truck sits closer to level with a slight nose low rake not really nose low like stock. Very happy with the result money well spent.

Fender measurements at the center of the wheel.
Before:
Drivers front, 34.25"
Drivers rear, 36.50"
Pass front, 34.50"
Pass rear, 37.00"

After:
Drivers front, 35.50"
Drivers rear, 36.50"
Pass front, 35.50"
Pass rear, 37.25"

Left pic before, Right pic after.

A bit of a quandary... 2018 TRD ORP with KDSS, TRD Pro wheels on Spidertrax. All 4 Bisteins were put on at dealer just prior to pickup. Front set at 0.85 and a rear ARB 10mm spacer installed.

After 3000k miles:
DF- 35.25
PF- 35.25

DR- 37.0
PR- 37.0

Why is the front sagging? I don’t have any additional weight up there. Was shooting for 35.75 or so.

Thanks.
B.

You will be happy with .85, which will give you 1" lift, maybe a tad more. That is what I did and it is perfect. 1.75 will give you reverse frame rack unloaded, loaded rear and it just looks silly.

If you go 1.75, you need to add a 1" rear spacer to not look odd driving down the road.

I was 'thinking' :redbrick: 1.75" & 3/4" cornfed in the rear (5100s all the way around). Any pic of 1.75" and 3/4" rear space (or 1").

Now you've got me thinking :redbrick: .85" and just a 5100 in the rear no spacer.....

I did .85 in the front and nothing in the back. The front is exactly one inch lower than the back. I like the stance, I wasn't looking for 'level'

Update: Wrong Gen Thread. Apologies.

Great post and very thorough approach. I too am looking to just do the 5100s @ 0.85 front on my 09 SR5 with 0.0" rear. The rake really is awful.

The biggest question to me is how do other "parts" of the truck fare? I have am not mechanically inclined (no pun intended) with anything related to auto work. Are brake lines an issue? Do you have wear problems on other suspension components?

I am not looking to do anything other than the 0.85's on the front. May keep the OEM on the back or maybe change, not really concerned there.

Any and all thoughts, experiences, and insights into this would be greatly appreciated.

As a side note, if some really smart person were to pick a gen and model type, and go through what is required for each lift option (the major ones that us newbies look for) that would be great. For instance.... If you want to raise the fronts to 2.5 with the 5100s on a 09 SR5, these are the modifications you need to do to ensure suspension reliability and "normal" wear. I could do this but unfortunately I'm an electrical engineer and suck mechanically. (not meaning to mess this great thread up)

Thanks in advance.
Steve

2020 4Runner - Album on Imgur

Reviving an ol Thread because this post, really jacked w my head when trying to figure out exactly what setting I should set my 5100’s to....on the fronts to level my rig.....as I was leaving the rears; stock height

The boys at Off Road Warehouse in San Diego assured me; 1.75” or One click down from the top was the leveling I was looking for and what they do all the time.
So install’d and balanced.... Wa-La!

After, I tape measured and the rears are 3/4” higher than the fronts with the 1.75” Bilstein 5100‘S setting

I had them install all four and couldn’t be happier with the ride. Exceptional upgrade
