Opinion please! Non-4runner

Hey all, I have not posted in a long time, but all is well with my 4runner. I bought it with 111k miles, up to 125k miles, and besides fixing rust and maintenance items, it has been great.

Locally a 1997 toyota land cruiser went up for sale. I have always wanted one... so here is the link, what do you guys think? Anyone own one, know anything about them? If I pulled the trigger, would it be as reliable as our 4runners?

Yes, the price sucks. I would try to beat them down on that or no deal.

Looks like a nice FZJ80. And yes the price is high. As far as dependability, it's a Toyota, not perfect but as good or better than anything else. Being partial to cruisers myself, I always liked the 94-97 80's.
What are you planning on using it for? Do you "need" the lockers? Back in the mid 90's, when these things were new, my friend built on of these for offroading. He installed ARB lockers, but used the factory switch, all the wiring was there.
Anyway, that one is a 40th anniversary model, I'm sure that adds to the perceived value. Shop around, or buy it, or don't. Up to you. :thumb3:

I've owned a 91 LC for 4yrs before my 3rd gen. This one is a 40th edition that looks in great shape. Hard to find and when you do, it's priced high. This LC doesn't look locked, but these trucks will do fine without the lockers. Nice to have when in sticky situations.

The motor is a 1FZ, which is a straight 6 4.5liter. It's a dog and you will not have good gas mileage like the runner. Cons with the motor are: HG blows, PHH blows, etc.

Suspension: Front straight axle, rear full floating axle. There are different variations of lifts if going that route. No matter if stock, to lifted all will be good. Mines was built and heavy with all the armor and accessories. Still did it's job and took my family home.

Good luck with the decision. If I were you, because I'm a previous LC owner I would buy it. That's just me.

The interior looks great. The paint looks good too. Those two details and one owner would make me think that it was probably maintained very well in general. I don't know if the LC80 requires a timing belt replacement. If it does you could check for the sticker showing the last date for a change. Take a test drive, visual inspection, look for rust underneath, make an offer.

The price is a tad steep but it looks nice. That one is a 40th Anniversary which makes it a little harder to find. The lockers are a nice feature but if you are on the road the majority of the time then who cares.

thanks everyone. I did not end up seeing it today because I was doing yard work all day... then out to dinner now for our anniversery... I guess all that outranked car shopping! Monday though, if it is not sold, I will be going to look at it!
