Opinions on any other upgrades while i fix something that needs to be fixed?

Okay my mechanic (a trust worthy one not one from some shop) found that some oil is leaking. I need to replace the valve cover gasket set and the lower plenum gasket on my engine to fix this. He said a lot of labor goes into this I don't remember what all the things he said you need to take off but he said it costs a lot from a shop. He is cheaper cuz all the money goes to him. Well anyways what i was wondering if anyone has any suggestions i might as well replace/upgrade in the same area?



Also on a side note:
Does anyone know of a thread where it shows upgrades to make your 3rd gen 4runner faster without making it unreliable/ things break easier?

Try tightening down the valve cover bolts a snug tighter, but ultimately you will have to replace the gaskets.

With OEM parts it should not run more than $400.

$400 for a set of VC gaskets and an upper and lower plenum gasket! Better not be cause I may be doing this soon....

The parts are about $110. A lot of dealers have a 20% off coupon code... Ask them if they'll let you use it. I have used it many many many times.

As far as the labor, the only real "hard" part is taking out the spark plug tube seals...

Things to upgrade while you're in there... Get a TRD Throttle body gasket, perhaps. Or LCE sells the same thing for about $3.00. That all I can really think of that's not a whole lot, for minimal gain.

Other than that, look into the ISR and Deckplate mods...

When i did my valve cover gaskets a few months back i went ahead and changed all the spark plugs, and cleaned the MAF as i worked my way outward.

thanks for the opinions guys, and yeah i looked at parts onlyine i think i can get them all for about 65-80$$ and my mechanic is like 20 to 25 an hr and really freakin good

If it helps I just did mine, well a trusted mechanic did and mine ran $193. Not a drop of oil leaking or seeping now! I'm glad I finally did mine.

Honestly I know it's not OEM, which was hard to do, but I was short on money. I can call him and see what he got. He said it was next best to OEM so I was pleased.

i just bought some off ebay lol, idk if its oem or not i asked my mechanic before i got it and he said to buy em so oh well i got all the parts for 50 dollars including shipping lol

Heck yeah! I usually stay OEM, always with important parts, but I figure gaskets are perfect for me as long as they hold! Congrats on the fin brother!
