Order of Operations - Overland Rig

What trails did you run in Moab? If you weren't getting your money's worth out of skids, sliders, lift, and bigger tires, you should have been running some different trails.

The most difficult trail I have done in Moab is Top of the World. Even with my icon lift with stock preset settings I did not scrape the underneath of my rig. I did stack rocks at one obstacle because I knew I was going to bottom out. Prior to leaving to Moab I contacted a few people about the Top of the World trail and they said I will surely scrap and what not. People even said to me that jeeps with 35's were hitting the rear bumpers. I guess the key to this trail is to go very slow. I have witnessed a nissan xterra group going waaaay to fast and hitting rocks with there rear leafs.

I like overland type adventures so I try to avoid extreme rock crawling when possible. I'll do some of it like I did at the Top of the World trail because the ending of the trail was worth it. But I do not like just rock crawling for fun of it.

With all that said. I will never get skids. Stocks are fine for me. Sliders definitely I want but I just purchased a gobi rack so broke for now.

Not having ever owned a 5th, I have no advice. I just wanted to say that I came in here ready to pitch a fit about pussies who are too scared to actually wheel, building mall crawlers and calling them "overlanders".

After a few weeks I had already slashed a sidewall and completely destroyed my running boards because they had been acting as rock sliders ... Not long after that I was missing pieces from my front bumper and punched in a sizable dent on my rear.

I stand corrected. You can call your truck whatever you want :D. You said you're not a DIYer - I have a driveway and tools and would be happy to help you out with basic stuff like bumper installs and such.

And let me know if you want to hit some trails! We've got a local crew of 4Runner guys that get out pretty regularly, but we're missing a 5th gen in the collection and it sounds like you're fun to wheel with :). We'd be happy to have you join us.

This just confused me. I figured the SW trail trim would be made to exclusively work with the SW sliders. If I went with SW sliders for my limited, I would have to buy the SW trim for a proper fit, correct? As well as trim my rocker panel?

BB specifically mentions that rocker panels need to be trimmed/removed for the LE sliders to fit with no other additional pieces needed for mounting. Are you saying I can buy the SW trail rocker trim and mount the BB to that? What would be the difference between just mounting the BB alone vs mounting them to the SW trim piece?

Interesting perspective. I don't plan on entering the baja 1000 anytime soon so I guess I will have to rethink the remote resivoirs. I have also been looking into icons S2 modular whatcha-ma-call-its to run secondary shocks but that is way over my head for the time being. Want to talk me out of that setup too?

You should be able to buy the trail rocker trim from SW and run BB since all it does is give you the lower profile rocker of a TE. If you decide you don't want to do that. Metal Tech offers there own sliders for SR5/Limiteds that are pretty nice (I'm probably getting mine next week after I saw them on jbstrd), they also offer Outpost offroad sliders which many people run here that don't require rocker trimming. Ultimately the decision is up to you but just some options to be aware of (I don't care for removing or cutting truck body parts).

Yea, I like my MT sliders a lot. They have a unique main rail design they call a gull wing. I think they are even on sale right now.

mrtifftiff The purpose of our trim kit is to allow the SR5 and Limited crowd to run sliders without having to either drop the slider below the massive SR5/Limited trim (loosing about 2" of clearance in that area) or trim their stock trim to fit.

We obviously would prefer it be used with our sliders, but it can be used with any frame mounted sliders out there really. If there is something in particular you are looking for out of our sliders that you haven't seen, don't be afraid to ask!

Considering all of the feedback, I have decided on the beefy version of BudBuilt's bump out sliders with partial tread and Shrockworks skids.

I need confirmation on a few things:

1. To avoid hacking up the rocker panel with BB sliders, I am going to match it with the SW trail rocker trim. If I were to not use the SW rocker trim, I would lose additional clearance if I were unwilling to trim the LE rocker panel and there is no reason to believe that these two products can not be paired together. Correct?

If you are unwilling to trim the LE rocker panels and still install the BB sliders, you would not lose any additional ground clearance, you would loose your rocker panels, lol.

The BB sliders sit much higher up and will occupy the space where the LE rocker panels are, there's no way around that.

If you don't want to use the SW rocker trim and don't want to trim the LE rocker panels, then the only thing you can do is remove them. But the SW rocker trim should clear the BB sliders just fine...

EDIT: If you are still concerned with compatibility have you considered having SW custom make you whatever kind of slider you like? I've seem some pretty nice looking one off custom sliders from SW. Maybe you can contact TxBxSx if you are interested.

I'll be honest, I am partial to BB stuff since I've order from Bud and am more than happy with their customer service. But SW stuff is pretty much top notch as well. You cannot go wrong with either one!

I just read through your comment 10 times scratching my head thinking you were contradicting yourself. I have been under the impression this entire time that the SW rocker trim was a piece in addition too, not instead of, the current trim on my car. Admitting such clearly demonstrates how cherry I am to all of this.

So to make crystal clear:

I am going to order the SW trail rocker trim. Then when I am checking out with my BB sliders, I will select their trail edition sliders.

I can't believe I outed myself. :help:

Yes, you need to remove the LE rocker panels to install the SW rocker trim in place of it. If you installed something on top of your already too bulky LE rockers, how on earth would that make things thinner and provide you with more clearance, lol.

I am not sure how the BB checkout is setup anymore, but I think it does not really matter what you select (SR5,TE,LE) it's all the same slider fitment...you could call BB and confirm, they are pretty helpful over the phone.
