Ordered '18 TRD Pro

So we ordered a 2018 TRD Pro in white for the misses today. She couldn't be more excited! This dealership in particular seems to get quite a few TRD Pro's in all three models throughout the year and they even have people come from as far away as California apparently to order them (they had three TRD Pro Tacomas on the lot today). They told us to expect about a six week wait on the 4Runner, which I am more than ok with, but for some reason my gut tells me we are going to be waiting much longer than that. While we are less than two hours away from the factory, I don't think that should have much bearing on the duration of the build.

They told us that I won't have an expected build-date/delivery date, until the factory has approved the build and reached out to the dealership with that info and then that's just a target at best I assume?! Have they gotten faster with delivery times on these builds, or are they feeding me a line of bull and/or a pre-packaged standard wait time reply? For those of you that have ordered recently, what kind of time frame should I truly expect?

Great color choice! You are going to love it. Picked up mine about a month ago.

Congrats! I'd believe them on California buyers. I was calling all over the country to find one with how badly the dealers here price gouge.

PS--4Runner is still built in Aichi, Japan so I don't think your proximity to the Toyota truck plant will help too much :D

Good to know, I was under the impression it was built in San Antonio with the trucks.

So any thoughts on whether or not 6 weeks sounds realistic?

I was told 6-10 months by SoCal dealerships, but they have high demand and existing wait lists. My understanding is that Toyota builds X number of the Pro per year and each dealer gets a piece of that based on their volume and relationship with Toyota. The dealer doesn't know anything about what they're getting until it is built and in transit. So it's nothing like being able to put in a factory order like with Euro brands.

When I got my 2017, took little under 2months to take delivery.

Purchased in Wyoming.

Whoa! Are you saying your dealer told you that? If yes, that's either serious lying or genuine ignorance of things Toyota.

A specific salesman at another dealer did in fact say that. I thought only the Tundra was built there but I took him at his word, obviously he had no idea what he was talking about and sadly I am not the least bit surprised.

Price?

Can I pry and ask what price paid and which factory options you went with?

I put a deposit down on mine mid-december and my realistic hope is to have it before April :)

Haha I guess that salesman doesn't look at VIN #s. That "J" should a big enough hint...

The only real option outside of the connectivity kit and exhaust tip, cargo net, and other small silliness was the rear cargo area hidden compartment/shelf thing, it was $350 and we opted not to select it. After delivery fee it came out to $43,720 sticker.

AFAIK, you can't "select" options on the Pro. Toyota is going to ship your dealer a car with whatever options Toyota wants to put on it, and you'll have to decide if you want to buy it or not.

I think that's a pretty fair price! Ours came to $42,166 as ordered (I went with the slide out as the wife thinks it will be handy for tailgating).

I hope that is not true. This is my first time ordering a brand new vehicle and the dealer basically said if it's available as an option on the Toyota site (when you build through there) then he can add it.

I guess we'll see what shows up in a couple months :D
