Ordered a lift....

Hi guys,

First off, been reading here for quite some time. TONS of information and can't thank you all enough for that.

So today I ordered a 3" lift kit from toytec. I got the bilstein 5100's. This one here 3" Lift W/ Bilstein 5100 Height Adj Coilovers FJ/4Runner - Toytec Lifts: Toyota Lift Kits: FJ Cruiser Lift Kits, Tacoma Lift Kits, Tundra Lift Kits, 4 Runner Lift Kits, Sequoia Lift Kits, Toyota Truck Lift Kits


Question is, do I need anything else? I see other kits that are 'complete' kits that have things for front diff drop and sway bar relocation. Guy at toytec said I'm all set but I figure I'll check with you guys.

Oh, its for a 2011 SR5. Thanks for any info!

You'll need the sway bar relocates for sure, but you can probably go without the diff drop. Most of us have ommitted it- if you do a little bit of searching you might find something on the subject.

You may want to also purchase some upper control arms which will allow you to align your suspension to within factory specs or even better.

Obviously after installing everything you'll want to take it to a reputable shop for alignment.

Sounds great! I ordered the parts for the sway bar relocation. I'll save up a few bucks before spending another $500+ on control arms. I'll just wait to do the lift and do it all at once. I'll definitely do it though cause I wanna make sure that it drives well after the lift is on. Don't want to be able to only go 60mph! Thanks again!

aaand back to the drawing board i go.. I wasn't aware that we'd need to relocate the sway bar.. :\
is the sway bar relocation needed due to the height or due to the shocks used?

I would trust the Toytec guys. If you told them your year, make, model, they'll let you know what you need. Sway bar relocators are needed on the Toytec Ultimate kit to move the swaybar forward and prevent it from hitting the coilover. I'm not sure it the same rules apply to the 5100 kit.

It's very simple/ cheap. Don't let that keep you from a lift.

The sway bar relocate is primarily used due to the shocks used. For me, running a 2.5 setup, the sway bar would hit the coilover without the relocate. That is probably why toytec said it's not needed in the kit you have listed, the spring diameter isn't big enough.

Yeah the diff drop is not really needed if you stay under 3" up front.

And I agree on the UCAs. Eventually you will want them.

Here's a pic. It's just a simple (silver) spacer that relocates the mounts forward and down.

I recommend the Light Racing UCAs, they're cheaper ($400 or less) and just as good as the competition. AND they're adjustable!

Got the lift install and all the other mods I'm going to do for a while. I love the SCS wheels! Rides better than factory in my opinion!

Your lift looks awesome!

I am researching parts for a lift on my '12 Trail.
It seems through my research here that you can do a lift (or level) by just adding Bilstein height adjustable front and matching 5100 rear shocks for $400.

What is the advantage to adding the additional front coil overs and rear super flex coil springs? The cost goes up $500-800 depending on the lift kit and then it's recommended to add the light racing UCA's for an additional $450? Now your looking at almost $1,700 for parts without install costs.

I can only assume depending on your off road intentions that you get what you pay for, but would just changing all 4 of my shocks to the Bilstein 5100's work well for both the lifted look and light off roading?

I just installed the 5100s on my 4th gen and the rears aren't height adjustable, only the fronts.
