Ordering a 2007 4Runner?

"I think Cars Direct misleads people on a price that will never be offered."

REALLY? wow that is a blow. you mean that they tell you a price but cannot reasonably obtain it from the dealer for that quoted price? Just want to make sure I am understanding you. Also I talked with the dealer today and he said "no way" could he get a Sport model with Nav. I was again taken back....so I put out an email to carsdirect and following up with them. incidentally, carmax has some good deals on new Sport models but they are on the east coast. your thinking appreciated.

Thanks for that information....so would you go with a dealer to get exactly what you want or carsdirect? your opinion?

I've never used carsdirect before. I bought all my vehicles from dealers. I usually email dealers what I'm looking for and what price they can offer. I go to the lowest price dealer and work numbers there. But always check what others are paying especially in your area to know what numbers you should be at. With a special order, some look at it as, I rather pay to have what I want instead of getting a deal and making a compromise.

That is usually what I do, call several dealers and go with the best prices. In this case I've called over 9 dealers. All I can say is never give up. I've found my best deals have come from dealers in really big cities. Then I take those price quotes to my local dealer and tell them I'd rather buy from them but they have to meet or beat that price. On one other occasion, buying my wife's highlander, they did beat it. So I'm banking on them doing that TODAY! Yup gunna do it today. I'll let you guys know how it goes. Hard to beat $299 over invoice! That's less than 1% over invoice like I was quoted before from another dealer.

As far as cars direct, well they are how I found this dealer in Kansas City who just quoted me $299 over invoice. As she was telling me the Cars Direct deals are a bit misleading and only pertain to the cars on lots right now. Not special orders.

I have a 4 Runner Sport myself and a good friend of mine was in the market for a SUV. I talked pretty highly of the 4Runner, so he checked them out and him and his wife decided that was the vehicle for him. He spoke to several local dealerships and found there was only one vehicle equipped like he wanted in his area (he got all equipment he decided on and his only color choice). He tried to negotiate a deal on the vehicle with the dealership that had it and two other dealerships that said they could locate one (just happened to be the same one). The dealerships all were around the same price initially ($400 to $500 over invoice) and all came back at roughly half of the difference between their "best" price and the Carsdirect price. He did not push the issue either, because he thought all of the internet reps he dealt with kind of blew. It wasn't like any of them "earned" his business.

So, he went with Carsdirect and had no problems whatsoever. He got the vehicle he was negotiating on at a price he was very happy with. The process was quick and he didn't have to settle for anything. Granted, they were able to get the vehicle that he wanted, so the situation is a little different. It was quite quick too. He initiated the request this past Sunday and he was burning gas on Wed. (would have been sooner, but he couldn't get out of work on Tuesday).

On top of that, there were no additional fees that the dealerships wanted to include either. If you asked him, he would 100% recommend Carsdirect

Well I went in my local dealership armed with all the information I got from the other dealerships (price quotes) and told them to beat the best deal i found and I'll buy it today. As far a I was concerned that one dealership that told me that they can sell to me for $299 over invoice, $34,151. was the cheapest. So that is the price I threw at them saying I want my very specific options and you have to beat it. We they came back and said all they could do was $500 over invoice. I asked "what is that in dollars"? They said "well I can beat your offer by $161." ($33,990) I said "SOLD!" :D

So I officially ordered my new baby today. They weren't specific on expect time of arrival, but what dealership is. They said somewhere between 4weeks to 3 months. I'll post up some pics if anyone is interested!

Thanks ya'll for your information and help! :D

FYI: So if anyone is interested, you know you can get the following:

8686- Sport 4x4 V8
SR-sunroof
RF- rear spoiler
EJ- 10spkr JBL
NA- power outlet 115v
EC- auto dimming mirror
GY- side curtain airbags
NJ- homelink (garage door opener)
CM- double decker cargo

all for $33,990 out the door!

1) I just ordered a 4Runner 7 days ago with the Side Airbags option. What kind of Car Company would remove the option unless there are issues with them. "Um we don't want our drivers to be safe, so let's get rid of this option." Please, I hate salespeople that don't know their own product.

2) No offense, Anything at $300 over invoice is still a great deal. But don't stop until you e-mail every single dealership you are willing to travel to. The dealership we are dealing with here in Houston is #1 Ordering our car for us and #2 Selling it at Invoice. I know $300 yippee, but that is $300 in your pocket. I especially lose all respect for the salespeople that say, but we are only making $300 on this sale. First dealership I went to, before I opened my mouth, showed me the sticker, then the invoice price (almost $4000 below sticker, what matches Edmunds or Consumer Reports (which is what I ran the report with)), and he offered me $300 over invoice. Was I special? Not at all. No car dealer is stupid enough to sell a car for $300. They spend that in sweat. They are making $1000s on the sale of that vehicle and they make us look idiotic for asking them to go lower. Take that $300 offer to the next dealership and ask them if they can beat it and so on and so on. Then go back to the first dealership and ask them to beat it. Only time it takes you is sitting at the computer typing the e-mails. Just trying to pass on some fire to future Runners. Good Luck.

Said it before and I'll say it again. If nobody will beat $300 over invoice, don't feel defeated as long as you tried.

Here Here 4Runnin_ToyBoy! I'm all for calling as many dealerships you can. Like I said before I contacted 9 dealers in a 4 state area. Find the best price you can and then take it back to your ideal dealership (local) make them beat or match that way you might not have to make a trip. Always ask for lower. Eventually you'll get to the point where they say no.

So what did you order 4runnin_toyBoy? Sport? options?

My wife and I settled on:

Limited V6 4x4 (Shadow Mica w/stone interior)
Weight Carrying Tow Hitch And Ball Mount
The Extra Mile Option Package C
Driver & Fr Passenger Seat Side Mounted Airbags
Vehicle Shield Package
Daytime Running Lights
Rr Spoiler w/Center High Mounted Stop Lamp
X-Reas Sport Enhancement Suspension
JBL Synthesis Am/Fm 6-Disc In-Dash Cd

Some of the things I debated getting since it would be cheaper to do myself, but when you are only paying invoice for the options as well, I'd rather them do the work. =) I'm lazy like that!

Well so far no dealer has stepped up to put the factory Nav in the Sport. Waiting is the hard part. Drove a Sport today but the dealer was not compromising about Nav or price........all I wanted to see was to make sure of cargo room. Waiting.....

ehhhh you dont need nav anyway. For $2600 you can buy the top of the line Garmin and have it installed by a professional and stil have change left over!!! I wanted the NAV also but didn't make sense as a $1700 upgrade from the JBL synthisis. I'll take my $1700 and go buy that nice garmin for less than half that.

my 2

Or you can buy the top of the line Garmin Street Pilot 7500 for $1300

that is sweet. CA has specific laws against suction cups on the dash mostly to pull over people that they think did something else (an exuse)....the thing I want is the integration of phone nav satellite traffic....will see as I say...plan B kicks in a dealer cannot produce.

Well the 7500 doesn't have suction cups. think they would have an issue with that model?

According to the DMV in CA nothing can be on your dash suctions or bolts.....they say the same thing about things hanging from the rear view mirror and everyone does that but I see no things on dashes....
seems real from the CHP perspective.
