Ordering GOBI

Finally finished installing mine last night:

I ordered mine June 1st and received it July 27th, roughly 8 weeks. I ordered through TrailDuty and got the no rise and adjustable crossbars. I also ordered around the time that TD was honoring the free ladder deal and $100 off. If I had any questions I called Gobi directly. Like a few posters have stated, calling Gobi in the AM did have better results for me. They were very prompt and respectful, it's interesting to hear others' experiences.

The ladder went on after the picture!

Ordered mine 5/11 through Trail Duty and still haven't received it. 7/20 called and Alex said Aug 2nd scheduled shipping. Emailed last week knowing I wouldn't get a response. Called them yesterday and Alex said the usual "check with the warehouse and I'll call you this afternoon" line. Called again just now and another girl said she or Alex would call this afternoon. Do I believe her? Nope, not at all...they have zero credibility with me at this point. I'm not in any unusual hurry but their order fulfillment schedule seems to be inconsistent as well as poor customer service. But I'm used to it, very few parts retailers/manufacturers/fabricators for the 4Runner seem to be on the ball unless they have items in stock.

For those with the sunroof cutout and insert do you know if Gobi has a way or can customize it so that you can mount the insert rearward in the rack when removed from the sunroof?

Sounds like you and I are in the same boat. Order via TD. Few weeks ago Gobi estimated shipping this week. I too called Gobi yesterday got the same response you did. And like you, I don't expect a call back anytime soon. I'm in no particular hurry either, but I am perplexed buy their lack of communication/response.

I lucked out. There was someone local to me that had the exact configuration I wanted still in the box.... wait time 12 hours:reddance: Savings of about $600 taboot

Well got a call late yesterday afternoon. They said shipping this Friday. They tried to blame it on a change order for wiring for light bar that I submitted through Trail Duty back in July. Funny thing, when Alex gave me the original ship date of 8/2 she confirmed the change order was already received so the latest reason for the delay doesn't hold water. We shall see if they come through or not.

Well...we're must be close in the queue. I just got an email stating Gobi has shipped my order. Wonder who's will arrive first?

Looks Good. Did you receive any tracking information?

This keeps getting better.
So Trail Duty emailed me today after I emailed them yesterday prior to Gobi's call to find out what's up. After Gobi called me I emailed Trail Dury saying I didn't need an update as Gobi gave me a date.

Trail Duty asked Gobi anyways and Gobi told them it's shipping next week, a direct contradiction to what Gobi told me just yesterday that it was shipping our Friday.

Bottomline: whatever Gobi or TD tell you doesn't mean squat until you have a tracking number in your inbox. Meh whatevers, I'll see it when I see it and they should change their language from 8-12 weeks to 12-16 weeks on their sites.

I've been wanting to order one but every time I hear about the crappy customer service they provide, I stop from pulling the trigger. :ballchain:

Order one now, you may get it before Christmas. Customer service blows for a lot of these vendors who build to order unless you're making a pre-purchase inquiry. But I'm sure I'm just one of hundreds of emails/calls from people wondering where their order is. I'm not worried Gobi is ripping people off unlike some operations.

Agree. It's wacky.. But I suppose the only thing we can count on is that I have not read anything from anyone that ordered these racks has stated they did not receive the product. So we trust it will arrive. However our anxiety drives us nuts.

Ordered my Gobi Stealth direct from Gobi in May and I was told 8-12 weeks before delivery.

I contacted Gobi a couple of times to modify my order and couple more times to discuss delivery. They responded every time except for one.

Gobi Rack was delivered mid July. Excellent company to deal with and very happy with their products.

That is great! I get that waiting is not for everyone.. People are used to getting what they want when they want it.

The wait from Gobi seems reasonable if I'm being honest. I've purchased from smaller manufacturers who custom build and if there is high demand this is what you get. At least the expectation is there.

Now, the communication is always something that needs help but Gobi isn't the first AND if people are communicating asking where their rack is before the expected date then I'd not be responding either. You kinda knew what you were in for before you ordered it. :fencing:
