There was rust, but not bad really. So now to repair. It was every place there was a clip.

That 2nd pic looks pretty bad. Make sure you take it all the way down to bare metal before you seal it up and put a new window back in. That's what mine looked like before sanding it down to clean metal.

How were the bottom corners?

Same as mine. Because those clips trap debris. Debris absorbs moisture, holds it longer, and adds impurities to the otherwise almost pure water, turning it into a mild electrolyte, marinating the metal and finish so rust grows faster. Chrome trims suck big time.

Please keep us posted of your process, order of application, because I'm going through that thought process thoroughly, before letting windshield shop touch it again and waste my time again.

for por-15, you may not want bare metal. it is recommended to apply it to rough surfaces, ie, where loose rust/scale has been removed, but surface is not shiny metal.

i'd use the wire wheel to clean those rust spots, and take a good look at whether there are any holes. if not, i'd apply the por-15 to the slightly cleaned up rust, and then apply another coat a day or two later. that's what i did on my frame, inner fenders, fenderwells, and under side body where i had light surface rust. i also applied it to the limited rust i found around my windshield when i had the glass replaced, too.

just pointing it out. there may be other opinions about por-15 and what is the best surface prep for applying it.

i believe the wire wheel will remove most of the glue/rubber junk.

Inspiring build

Just wanted to say - from someone who's aspiring to rebuild a 1st gen 4Runner - that it's really impressive seeing everything you've accomplished here. I'm learning a ton just going through all of these posts. Thanks for putting everything up here for others to learn!

Just out of curiosity, how heavy are those sliders? I like the simplicity! Do you plan on rhino lining them or laying down some grip tape?

They weigh just over 40# each, 80# both. After everything is powder coated I plan to put grip tape down them. Simplicity was the goal, so glad I succeeded! Both done!!
