Outdoor Grill Shopping - Recommendations

Of the three you posted, the Huntington would be the best choice. The other two are made of thinner steel, which tends to wear down and rust faster...so it won't last as long. And in my opinion, you'll want to get something with at least 3 burners. You loose out on the ability to cook meat indirectly (ribs, loins, bigger pieces of meat).

You think this is a good one? They are out of stock at my Lowe's stores and on Amazon.
 
how bout a custom grill.. my friend made me one from a 50gal drum.. custom fabricated. powdercoated to my fav color. doubles as a firepit. removable top and ashpit for easy clean out.. I paid a$100

check on craigslist, there may be custom grill makers in your area.. I only suggest this because its really cool and made to last.. it will outlast anything on the market .either way.. good luck on your hunt..
 
I'm a really big fan of Weber and personally I recommend you stay far AWAY from any of the Home Depot owned brands.

A $299- $400 gas grill from those HD brands will prob rust away in just a few years.

I suggest you get the $500 Weber on Amazon but whatever you do , don't buy a home depot branded cheap BBQ. My charcoal Weber has been sitting outside w/in a mile of the Ocean for at least 5 years and has no rust at all. My old roommates gas Brinkman rotted away within just 3 years and they threw it out.

On a side note, how into BBQ is your husband? Because I would prefer my GF either give me the money for the BBQ or just pay / chip in on the one I want. I would prefer to choose for myself.

These are pretty awesome for charcoal but I haven't seen any customs that accepts gas (not reasonably priced anyway).

That's helpful. He doesn't grill a whole lot but the grill gets used at least 5x a week. I grill most of the time, but just your average grilling. We rarely cook with the stove.

I see your point. I just hate giving money. Though it's my money, it still sucks cause I know that's probably what he wouldn't buy himself. He has always wanted a nicer grill, but doesn't want to spend the money on one. Buying one for him will force him to accept it.

I don't think I'll wait until 4th of July because this grill is for our home. We'll be out at our lake house the week of the 4th and that's where his smoker is. We don't grill a lot there, just smoke.

Edit: Oh and I did look on craigslist and there wasn't much of anything. Just some cheaper small black weber's.

He says it is a Weber, 1 year old and was originally $950.

I would ask if he has the original receipt showing its purchase date. This is good for warranty, I assume weber is 3 years but I don't know for sure.

They say $500 but I suggest you offer $400 cash if it is perfect shape and if he has a receipt. Tell him upfront that you will have to look it over before deciding its value.

Slightly off topic:
Also if you make and offer try to use very specific numbers like $394.00 or $427.00 - I just heard on the radio about a study done which showed in negotiating using specific numbers ans not rounded (400) indicates the negotiator knows their stuff.

Interesting! I would think the person was a nut if they came back asking me if I'd take an odd number like that :)

The issue with the grill above, is that it's too far away. It's a 4 hour drive.

Small Grill Choice for those prefer Charcol

I personally own one of these, but I only cook for two people at a time. This grill will last forever because it is made from cast iron (don't pour cold water on hot cast iron, don't drop/bang cast iron parts). I use a thin sharp stainless steak knife to scrape down the grilling surfaces and let the grease/ burned on stuff right into the charcoal.

This grill is not great if you have to feed like 10 people (other than hamburgers/hotdogs), but normally, I take like a 7-8lb oven roaster (chicken) and pay like $8, cut it into 4 pieces by:

1. Use a Chinese meat cleaver, cut right down through the breast bone and down the back (splitting the chicken in half)
2. Cut the Leg/Thigh along with a small piece of the hip, you get 2 full leg pieces. along with 2 full chicken breast pieces.

Start up the grill, and cook for about an hour, add BBQ sauce last 10 minutes or so.
