Over-Sensitive Keyless Remote Buttons

The buttons on the remote are way too easy to press IMO. Just taking the keys out of my pocket, I've locked or unlocked the doors on occassion. There are also several posts about the truck magically "locking itself" or about the rear window being open a bit for no apparent reason. I think it's the remote!

So, has anyone done anything to the remote to make it so that you need to press the buttons a little more deliberately?

I would certainly be interested in hearing any answers as well, since I have exactly the same problems constantly. The buttons on the remote are constantly being pushed even when the remote is just sitting in my pockets.

They should integrate a small sliding HOLD switch like my old Clifford remotes. I too have accidentally pressed the buttons on the remote many a times while in my pocket. One time the panic went off while I was kneeling in the garage to check my tire pressure. One of the keys on the ring must have hit it. Scared the living crap out of me when the horn started blaring. My friend suggested taking the remote apart and placing some very small ring of high density foam (like neoprene) around the edges under the switch and around the actual switch on the circuit board to add a bit of physical resistance when pressing down. I might try it later.

I had the exact same problem and here is what I did. I removed all of the keys from my key chain except the ignition key, remote fob, and my house key. Prior to that I had keys & fobs to two other cars, parents house key, mailbox key, etc. that were just jamming up my pocket & accidentally unlocking doors, opening the rear window etc. This worked for me.

There's a leather case that will fit our remote, except it'll the panic button will be blocked. I think the plastic window the leather case is fairly thick, so it makes pushing the buttons down take a little more effort. The case isn't really all that special, looks like a pillow case with a clear window on one side and a metal grommet on the open end for the key ring.

Disclaimer: Yes, it's tacky, I'm aware of that... I know of someone who has one. I just keep my remote and truck key together, seperate from the rest of my keys.

Uneek - believe it or not, that's exactly what I had in mind as a solution. I couldn't remember where (or if) I saw such a thing, until your post. My dad has a Honda and has purchased stuff from H and A!

While I also admit it's tacky, I'm willing to give it a shot. I carry too many keys, so getting rid of some really isn't an option.

I'm going to hit the local auto parts stores first, as shipping is more than the item itself. If that doesn't pan out, I'll go to H and A.

No problem, glad I was able to help. I think I had few online retailers charge me shipping equal or more than the items. eBay sellers are notorious for it.

I've tried googling for the case, rather than link a Honda/Acura accessory site on a Toyota forum--but no dice. I wonder if Partznet will carry something like this. I know of H and A, cause I was helping my uncle get things for his Ody.

I came up with zip locally. A kid at the local auto parts chain store was notably lost, with no idea what I was talking about!

I got my dad to order some oil filters, so that will make the shipping cost a little more worthwhile!

Here's a follow-up on this thread.
I got the leather Remote Holder shown on this page at H and A Accessories.

After a couple of weeks with it, I have found that it helps make the remote buttons less sensitive. The leather part of the case covers the rear window and panic buttons, but that's OK by me. In general, the case fits very well; you can run the key ring through the case and the original hole in the remote, keeping the remote in place relative to the plastic window in the case. The case measures about 2.75" by 1.75". It's made by Remote Totes, although it's a lot cheaper from H and A than it is to buy direct.

Bottom line, I'm happy with it!
