Overheating

3vze.Ok so head gasket blew like a monthago. Took the heads to the shop it's all cleaned and resurfaced. I bought everything to do top end repair. Gaskets fluids belts ect......... Everything is on. Trucks starts pulls beutifully. It is still overheating. Did the timing best I could without a timing gun. I'm running 1040 oil. Is that why or do I need to go back to 1030 since the head was refurbished. Could it be the timing? I do hear ticking noise from the the right side head.

Oil can't make you over-heat.

I highly doubt timing can make you over-heat.

Make sure it's full of 50/50, then if it get's hot again, carefully pop the radiator cap off to burp it. See what happens after that (worked for me)

Oil won't cause an overheat, unless you are running something crazy that your engine isn't designed to run.

10w30/10w40 are both spec'ed for that engine. You can debate which is "best" at what temps, but neither will cause your engine to explode with heat under normal conditions.

So. Overheat. You need to figure out the underlying problem that caused it first time away. You treated the symptom (blown head gasket) without figuring out the cause a.k.a the disease.

The 3vze is a overheating prone engine. I won't go into detail about it, you can search. It has a less than optimal cooling channel design that leaves cylinder 6 prone to overheating and HG failure, as well as warping.

Now, as for what caused the engine overheat. You have a ton of options. Air in coolant system, bad water pump. Stuck thermostat, clog in an internal coolant channel (usually caused by a piece of corrosion breaking off and getting stuck. Think a blot clot in the engine)... Dirty radiator. Bad engine fan, bad fan clutch. List goes on. Until you figure out what caused the initial head gasket failure, you will continue to have overheats..

which, every overheat will keep causing more and more warpage in your engine.

You made it so grim. :(

The head gaskets just get old and worn after 80,000+ miles ... I didn't know there was anything which actually "caused" it.

I would replace the thermostat off the bat. They are a few bucks and easy to replace. Check your oil and make sure you aren't getting any coolant leaking in to the crank case. What kind of shape is your radiator in?
