Overheating

I have a 1995 that has just had the engine replaced in it. The new engine only has 135k on it. As I was driving around town on relatively flat surfaces, the engine was fine. But this past weekend when I went back to school it started to overheat when pulling the mountain. Once I got back up to school (again relatively flat) the engine is running a little hotter than it used too, but not outrageous. The coolant is full, oil is full, thermostat seems to be dead on according to a local mechanic and laser thermometer. He told me that the lack of a fan shroud could be the issue. Has anyone else had this problem?

Yes a fan shroud can make a pretty big difference. Is the thermostat, radiator and radiator cap new? When it gets hot can you hear the clutch fan kick in? Might have air in the line?
