I have a 94 4Runner 3VZE that has been giving some overheating issues lately. It started a few months ago with me noticing a small coolant puddle under my truck. I tried several times to pinpoint the leak but every time I would run the truck and watch I didn't see any leaks. The puddle was near my drivers side front tire. After awhile of trying to figure it out I decided to use stop leak which I majorly regret now. The stop leak plugged up my thermostat so I replaced it with a toyota one. The leak issue seems to be intermittent now. I can go a week or more without seeing a drop in coolant or a puddle and then all of the sudden it leaks again. One time after moving the truck about 50 feet with the engine cold I saw coolant leaking and it appeared to be coming from above my thermostat near the water pump.
The last few weeks it's been trying to overheat on me when driving on the highway. Normally turning the heat on full blast brings the temp back down enough. I know I have some air in my system that I have been struggling to get out. I've parked on a hill 5 or 6 times and tried to burp it while squeezing all the upper hoses and can't dislodge the air. I can hear it when I first start driving and it sounds like its directly behind my gauges.
My 4Runner has been fine driving on one highway for 20 or 30 minutes at 70 mph but once i go through this one interchange and slow down to 40 or so and then speed up to 75 my temp gauge starts rising. I'm only on this road for about a mile and when I get off the temp continues to go up a little. Once I pull out at the stop sign the temp goes back down to normal. I think my water pump is on the way out but I'm not sure.
Any help is appreciated and I'm pretty desperate to get this figured out as its my DD.
Thank you!
