P0120 code, anybody replaced a TPS?

After over a year, my 4 runner finally popped a code. At 214k, it was bound to happen, stuff wears out. Is the TPS a big deal or major expense?

I got that code once but then it went away after a day. I guess I luck out but I went to the junk yard and stock up on TPS just in-case. But just as others have said it is an easy replacement.

I had to take my TB off and have it in hand to get to the 2 screws for the TPS so it's a good excuse to clean the TB and IAC while you have it off. Be careful not to strip the brass screws for the TPS and the IAC too, I stripped one on the TPS, had to re-use it because it was late at night, so I used a vise grips on the screw head to get it tight.

Interesting on the Power Steering fluid, I will check it. Did not mess with it this weekend and only coded once. I erased it and went on.

Checked the Power Steering Fluid, ok..

Bought a new TPS, installed it. Started the P0120 code again this afternoon. Any other ideas. I am out $55 on a part that did not work. I guess the new part could be defective?

Same thing happened to me last week, erased the code and continued on my way. With 250 000kms I always wait till i see the code come back a second time then I diagnose. The part has a chance of being defective especially if it's a non original part, 4runners seem to be allergic to them. I work at Lexus so when I got to work I looked into the code and the diagnostic instructions said to check the operation of the pedal, cable and tb before continuing to the tps. Then check the connector, wiring then the 5volt reference and then the ohm reading for the tps.

Terminals Throttle valve Resistance
1 ∼ 3 - 2.5 ∼ 5.9 kΩ
1 ∼ 3 Fully closed 0.2 ∼ 5.7 kΩ
1 ∼ 3 Fully open 2.0 ∼ 10.2 kΩ

Also check your air filter and clean your tb with carb cleaner.
Good luck and I really hope it doesn't come back for me too soon since I just ordered my whole lift kit and body lift, I officially have no more money.

Driveablility issues started today while pulling the boat, almost complete loss of power. You could floor it and it would not go. Reset the code and it perked up. Have not had a chance to look into it any more. It seems to pop the code on engine startup for the most part.

p0120 code

my wife had the error while i was off on a fishing trip. she took it to a local shop she likes. tps replaced and 229.00 bucks later it still failed next day.
took it back, said had a loose groung wire. 79 bucks later it failed 2 days later. auto zone free code readout says tps or ecm. if the ecm was bad it wouldn't run would it? she says now it is missing a little while driving???
i will check air filter and power steering fluid and report later.

Tps

I now this is an old thread but I just replaced my TPS with an OEM on from Amazon $50. Huge difference it fixed all of what I thought was maybe a transmission issue.
