P0171 Clues.....

Hi All,

Well I'm STILL chasing down a CEL that popped with the installation of a K&N drop-in filter..... MUCH more power and from ~17mpg to 23mpg hwy make me want to keep the K&N in place...but I'm running out of options.

So far I have:
Cleaned MAF thoroughly
New spark plugs
New PCV, no grommet (could this contribute?)
Cleaned throttle body thoroughly
Trimmed end of all vacuum hoses or replaced and re-clamped
Installed Airraid system as the stock box rubber was old a brittle.

On deck:
Fuel filter
Gas cap (OEM?)
Spark plug wires

I bought an ELM and OBDII app for my iPhone and it checks the O2 sensors and says they are emissions fine. I get a reading from the MAF so it is on-line in some capacity...)

I reset the cel in between each try and finally noticed it pops back on on a long hill climb I hit each day. Not the same miles but the same stretch of hwy. It's a long curving rise that demands an stomp on the accelerator to keep it at 60mph. This rise happens right after an on-ramp I enter the hwy on. I generally have to decelerate and then punch it to make this short grade. This extreme action has activated the cel 3-4 times. I thought it was a coincidence but it did it again tonight! Any clues?

A local 4x4 shop also said it's common with Toyota computers to not be able to handle all the air without popping the cel and there is no fix...just drive it... I'm not convinced...

Toyota says for $98 they can figure it out...

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Warren
