I’ve had slight slight hesitation since around the time I bought my 02 SR5 a year ago just assumed it was worn motor mounts or character of the 4runner. Early April I drove from northern Michigan down to cape hatteras outer banks NC and was there for a month. The day I got there the CeL came on, code P0304 and then I realized I could hear the Mia in the exhaust. It’s very slight in feel, sometimes can’t fee it and other times it’s obvious, most often when sitting in gear with brake pedal slightly pushed enough the car car can’t move, just surges like it wants to move.
I swapped the coil packs and cleared the code, it came back same code. I replaced the plug wires, same results. Plugs have 15.000 miles, they are the recommended NGK plugs. Found a member on the 3rd gen FB page that sent me a spare (known good) injector, I swapped the injector and still same result.
I’m getting 16-18 mpg the whole way back to Michigan, just got home a couple days ago.
Planning to pick up a compression tester and am nervous for what the result could be.
Looking for advice here.
When I’ve googled the code, lots of posts come up saying head gasket or worse, I don’t want to jump conclusion or believe those old posts yet but I’m nervous.
Car drives fine, can barely tell it’s missing however I am not used to a misfire on a 6 cylinder. Mpg seems legit, don’t notice any serious loss of power, feels the same as my last 4runner power wise, maybe even a bit better.
I have no smoke of any sorts from the tail pipe at any time, I’ve been watching and no odd smells, can’t even smell that it’s runnkng rich, maybe just at start up it smells rich, again figure that’s normal
Pulled plug, it looks clean, no residue, no white, no black, no oil, just clean and light brown color. So I did not swap plugs.
I have also had a periodic hard start since I bought it, sometimes it’s starts in 2-3 cranks, other times it’s 5 6 7 cranks or turn key off and on again and it fires up instantly.
What the hell
