The end of the saga......
So....here it is. The end of a very long journey. My truck is gone. Took my 4runner into my guy after it threw the check engine light again. After 2 days of checking it out, he said he believed it to be a ring issue on the #5 piston. i then took it to another shop, and they said the same thing. My guy suggested i just sell it if i was only planning on holding onto it for a few more months. So...away it went to Carmax. They gave me $6k for it. That money is going towards a new subaru forester that will be gracing my garage on Saturday. Then, next summer we will be trading in my wife's highlander on the new Tacoma once it had some time to work out any issues. Sad to see her go.

I am glad you are going with a Subaru...but.....I would check out the Outback/Legacy/Impreza/Crosstrek stereo/touchscreen before you sign for the Forester. The Forester will be getting the same radio for the 2016 models. It is a MUCH nicer system, and if you are getting the Forester Navigation, the Outback is about 10x better. If you are planning on doing aftermarket stereo or you do not care then no biggie. I suppose now that you have sold the 4runner you need to do something quick

Yes fozzie.....something had to be done asap. Not concerned with the stereo, because this will be my wife's car and that is not of great importance for her. No navigation either, as our cellphones work great as nav units. We did like the outback, but she wanted something smaller, an SUV, and cheaper. Forester 2.5i premium with automatic transmission, popular package 2, all weather package, mud guards, cargo cover, cargo tray, auto dimming mirrors with approach lights and homelink, eyesight safety features for $25k including freight. $1200 under invoice.
Oh...and the crosstrek is ugly.

I realize this is an older thread, so hopefully I'll get lucky with some input:
I recently changed the spark plugs in my 05 v8, as well as my oil. I performed the sea foam system into the manifold, gas and oil. I drove the car a week and a half or so later and got the check engine light. Did a diagnostic, and the engine is misfiring in 7 and 8. I put new coil plugs on, still misfiring in 7 and 8. Switched plugs 5 and 7, still misfiring. Could this be a head gasket issue? Why would that occur just by changing my plugs at 76k miles? There were no issues prior to changing the plugs. I'm using Bosch iridium plugs. Thoughts?

As far as I'm aware the V8 has no headgasket issues, only the '06 and earlier 4th gen v6s built in '05 or earlier before the production headgasket changed. I've read repeatedly on this forum that Toyota engines do not like Bosch spark plugs or O2 sensors. Consider changing your plugs and only use Denso or NGK spark plugs. Good luck!

When I bought mine, it had some ancient Bosch plugs the previews owner had put in there.
Put in the stock plugs from the dealer. That was the cheapest source, and trust me, I looked everywhere.
Cheap, simple, and the truck became way smoother, and my MPGs went up 1.5-2 MPG.
Using Bosch plugs is no good with these engines. I didn't believe it myself until I switched them back.
