How does one check for the exhaust leaks? Do I just look if there's no smoke comes out from between the pipe joints/gaskets?

If you want to find exhaust leaks, run Seafoam through an intake port on your engine. If you don't know how to do that, then do a search here on the forum regarding Seafoam. That stuff cleans out the top end of your motor, and causes the exhaust to smoke like hell for a few minutes in the process. You'll have smoke coming out of exhaust leaks you didn't know existed.
