P2441, Secondary Air Injection System Switch Valve Stuck Closed (Bank 1)

In over 11 years of owning my FJ and before I sold with almost 200k miles, never had a code all those years.

Now my 18 4runner Check Engine and Track Off lights were both on at the initial start up. Checked the code and it was P2441, Secondary Air Injection System Switch Valve Stuck Closed (Bank 1).

So I used my scanner to find out what code it was and it was the same code listed 3 times P2441. I erased the code all was well when I start the 4runner but I did noticed that the code was still on the scanner and it noted as Permanent. That was the first time I every saw that on my scanner.

Anyone know what this code is for before I take it into Toyota.

The FJ didn't have it but on 14+ 4Runners there is an Air injection system as part of the emissions system. Basically it forces fresh air into the exhaust manifold during start up and shut down (that high pitch whine you hear for a second or two). It can be a very expensive system to replace, and if you're under warranty I'd let the dealer take care of it.

This is a big problem in second gen tacoma. There is a delete kit out there but it has mixed reviews.

The Air Injection System was so much of an issue on the 2007-2010 Tundra and 2008-2010 Sequoia models, Toyota extended the warranty on related parts. How many miles are on your T4R?

I haven't call Toyota yet on this issue, I only have 23k miles on it. I believe this should be covered under Emission Warrant.

I believe to be closed it has to see no voltage, so this could be as simple as a failing sensor or a wiring issue.

Regardless the dealer should step up on this one.

I removed the foam filter from the Air Injection a while ago and installed a K&N Filter. This should be covered under the Emission Warranty.

Not true, the later model years FJs did have it. My '13 had it.
