Paint the Roof Rack Tubes on my 2007 Sport ?

I saw a Sport on the road that had "dark" roof rack tubes and thought it looked pretty good.

Mine is an 07' and has the light colored tubes with dark end caps.

I'm not sure if another model year offered the tubes in a dark color (like the end caps).

Can anyone shed some light on this ?

Have you painted yours ?

Were they offered in different color combo than the 07' ?

Can they be replaced ?

I have also thought about this! So, I would like to know too. I wouldn't think it would be to hard, maybe get them powdercoated instead of painting them.

I personally love the dark charcoal and black roof rails that come with the 07 sport. But if you're trying to go completely black, then by all means. I don't think they offered that as an option. I certainly have never seen any all black tubular ones. They made all black ones on some earlier years (prior to '06) but they weren't tubular.

You could only powder coat the bars (what is usually gunmetal/grey). The feet are plastic and would melt. I thought about getting mine done to match the wheels but would've had to take the feet to a body shop to color match to the tubes.

This is the one I bought for $235 but if you search eBay for "4runner rack" or search the part number you may find it cheaper. Just make sure you pay attention to shipping. I found it somewhere for $160 +18 shipping then the dealership emailed and said it would actually be $100 to ship.

It is really easy to replace, the hardest part was trying to remove the old rack without breaking the feet. I had a regular (non tubular) rack though and the feet are harder to remove (without breaking) from those.

If you have the tubular rack you just need to lift straight up on the top plastic of the feet & it will reveal 2 T30 torx bolts under each foot which need to be removed. Reverse that for the new one & thats pretty much the entire process.

Nice, I wonder if mine would look good with the rack just completely removed. Harper7 did it with his 5th gen and it looks great.
