Painting wheels w/o taking them off

Is it possible to paint the rims without taking them off the vehicle? i figure i just stuff newspaper behind the openings in the spokes, the index cards trick and tape off the nuts. Has anyone done this with success?

Why don't you want to take them off the truck? It'll be more work to do them on the truck, and more risk of a gust of winding putting overspray on your paint job.

Index cards work, but crisco works better... smear the tire with some sort of grease, and the paint won't stick.

I would not recommend leaving them on the truck. Its easy to take them off the 4Runner. Put some paper between the wheel and tire. You can also lower the PSI in the tire to help with this.

It's easily doable.. The note card or playing card trick works well. get like a big trash bag and drape it over the back of the tire and tape it around the back side of the cards. I'd at least take the tires/rims off the vehicle when you do it.

Ive done it out of laziness. Doesnt really affect much except for the first couple stops. lol. plus you get your calipers done. If i had to do it again id just take 2 off at a time.

i just painted my last stock set while on the truck, totally doable. Just cover your truck you dont even need to cover your tires depending on what colour you are painting. As mentioned above grease works on the wheels but so does a little bit of sandpaper, it wipes right off no problemo.
