Parking in single car garage

You live in the Bay, what do you expect!?! Unless you have an extra 5 figures a month for rent. Well depends where in the Bay area and how risky you want to live...

Won't be here much longer... off to greener and cheaper pastures... with a garage

I back in mine, single car garage, with 1/2" to clear the side mirror of the door on each side. First week I got the 4R, I had to move back and forth many times to get to the perfect spacing, scratching the mirror in a few occasions along the way. 4 months later, when I thought I got the hang of it, the garage door took the shark fin off and bended the roof because it was not opened tall enough. A $2000 lesson.

I back mine in the single bay of my 3 car garage as well. My garage has extra storage space on the far end though, so when I swing the driver's door out, I have tons of room. Hardest part is making sure to back up perfectly straight, like a couple of other people have mentioned, the mirrors are a tight squeeze. I use my mirrors to help me back in though, so I don't care that they don't fold in electronically!

If you position the car correctly, then everything can work out.

My guess is that in 2 1/2 years since the last post that he figured something out by now.

Not all single garage stalls measure the same dimensions and the same goes with two stall garages.

The house I just sold had the double and the single separated by a load bearing wall and getting two vehicles into the double using backwards/forwards/split was always a nightmare and the single stall was barely 8' wide.

The new house we bought has a double stall garage larger than the combined 3 stall garage we left.

I think it has to do with when the garage was built and the relative size of vehicles at that time and/or the relative cost of a square foot of space on that lot.

Only issue for me parking in the garage is height; but I'm on 35's. 3" lift, and the Pro rack doesnt help. Vehicle length is not a problem at all; I even have 5 bikes hanging on the wall in the same bay I park, and have a standard length garage.

One trick I used when I had a tight garage was mounting an old, cheap pillow to the wall or other obstruction. At least if me or anyone else opened a door wide (it's going to happen eventually) do damage is done. Currently, my garage fridge door will bump my 4R and I wrapped the handle with a thick microfiber to prevent it was dinging the truck if opened too far.

I also moved my tools to the basement. It amazes me how small some of these garages are on newer homes.
