Parking Sensors and Aftermarket Bumpers

Can anybody with a Limited who has installed an aftermarket bumper help me by explaining how the parking sensors were installed in the bumper?

I recently installed a Demello front bumper, and I'm trying to come up with ideas to mount the sensors. I was originally planning on drilling a hole to the size of the plastic cover piece, and fastening them using that. After looking at it closer, it does not appear that will work as easy as I thought. The plastic piece is angled and has an odd shape to it. Not to mention, the photos of Limited 4runners with aftermarket bumpers I've seen don't appear to utilize the plastic piece.

I would greatly appreciate any ideas or photos of your own setup since I don't want to mess this up by drilling into my new bumper.

Basically the sensor clicks into the plastic piece and thus secures in the hole.

I am currently waiting for my SSS Rear Bumper to come in. I requested for the reverse sensor option but have no idea how they plan on doing it. I'll be sure to take pictures when the bumper comes in but it will be a few weeks out.

My LE and I assume all 10-13 LE just had the backup camera so it's wasn't an issue. I find those things annoying myself and can't imagine they work well off-road anyway, so most probably do get rid of them when going to an aftermarket bumper.

I live in the Bay Area/San Francisco and parallel parking happens daily. Besides I can always turn them off when I don't need them. I would prefer the back up camera but I didn't get the entune option when I purchased my 4runner

I find them useful. Coming from vehicles that didn't have sensors to my current one I was skeptical about its use at first. I found the sensors to be annoying, and they do nothing to tell how close you are to something. Aside from that, they do have their use, and a good use I might add. They're nice to have in case there is something in the way you can't see. I barely look at my rear camera when backing since I prefer to use my mirrors, and they are nice because they signal when I'm getting close. Off-road they obviously get turned off. My main reason for wanting them is to continue utilizing the switch inside. If I don't want them on, I can always turn them off. I thought about tossing them, but I saw a few photos where people had them drilled into their bumpers and decided I want to do the same.

The other concern with using the factory parking sensors is they can be sensitive when installed into a steel bumper. I remember something about interference from a steel bumper vs the factory plastic bumper. The sensors would constantly go off and there was no way to adjust the sensitivity.

Yes. My 2013 SR5 has them.

Sorry for reviving old thread.......I assume Shrockworks just used the original "non symmetrical", as seen in Dark Lord's pictures, front snap ring pieces? I imagine the slightly odd shape of the ring is barely noticeable.

The ring that is angled is made that way to prevent the sensor from picking up the ground and going off all the time as a result.

When I installed my sensors in a new bumper cover I used all angled rings and just drilled holes. The ring snaps into the sensor to hold it in place. I also used really strong and tough vinyl tape to secure the harness behind the bumper so it wouldn't come loose.

It's all in the last few pages or so of my thread- sometime around November I think.
