Good luck! Hopefully it will go as smoothly (and quickly) as my install went.
No, I didn't need to do anything to the metal brackets. They fit perfectly.
What dash kit did you get? I used the Metra 95-8202. My head unit was the non-JBL Non-RDS type. I do know that if you have the limited with a different HU, you'll need to use a different kit.

I had originally planned to use the 8201 and I'm so glad that I discovered that the non-rds non-jbl needed the 8202. I actually ended up getting 2

Radio Data System
It basically can display radio station information such as genre, artist, song, etc...

You may want to consider ordering from Crutchfield. They'll give you that install sheet + you can call their support line if you need help. If your getting an older unit that they no longer sell (like me) then just do some research on the web. There's a few guys that have done it here and over on the Yotatech forums. I don't understand what the purpose of these "relays" is that are being sold on ebay. From what I can gather, they are sold as a necessary component to bypass the lockout on the head unit that prevents the use of certain functions when moving greater than a certain speed; usually 5 mph.
Has anyone taken one of these apart? I got a hunch that the wires are just soldered together inside that piece of shrink tube. The reason I am poking this bees nest is because I just installed a Kenwood HU and in my research into bypassing the lockouts, I noticed that there is one of these "relays" that is sold for my HU.
Thing is, I installed the HU without the "relay," I just connected the parking brake wire to ground and every function on the HU works great no matter what my speed. (I haven't tested playing a dvd yet but I'm guessing it will work just fine)
If there IS a relay inside there, it appears all it would do is connect your parking brake wire to ground any time the remote wire is live. hmmm...
just curious is all ...

It's a relay that simply sends a grounded signal to the head unit acting like the car is parked in order to let the HU play dvd's while the car is in motion. I have 1 on both of my double din DVD HU's and that's all they are

Sounds like I'm correct then; these are unnecessary; just connect the parking brake wire to ground and you're good to go. Save yourself the $10.00 plus shipping. These are in the same category as the ECU "chip" that adds 60 additional horse power...

I don't think it will work if it's just grounded, I think it has to switch to ground after the radio comes on, hence why it's triggered by the remote wire. But give it a shot and report back.

I am one step ahead of you. I ordered that micro relay just for kicks. I'll slice it open and let you know what i find I have a feeling you are right about it just being soldered to ground it out.

I think the after market HU's are that simple to bypass intentionally. They don't tell you how to do it but they don't make it difficult. They are less interested in CYA maneuvers than the auto manufacturers. I had a Scion HU (SNS 200) that would have required me to build a pulse generating circuit in order to bypass the lockouts. Good to know, I know with my pioneer, it needed the relay because there was a delay and if it was grounded right off the bat it wouldn't work, it needed that couple seconds of boot up before the trigger switched the relay for the bypass to work.
No relay needed for my AVIC-Z130BT. Just moved one of the pins up in the harness, then grounded the mute, parking brake wire, and ground together. Also just ordered both the Y-adapter and the smaller adapter for $8.95 shipped from Tigerdirect.com

Thanks again for the write up! I used all the parts you mentioned. For the brake bypass i used the micro relay sold on amazon for the pioneer radios. My radio reception is awesome and get HD radio since my receiver supports it. I also got fancy with the microphone placement and the placement of a permanent USB outlet. The head unit is the Pioneer AVH-P4400BH.
Before (hell ya rocking the old school tape deck aux input)
During (looks intimidating, but everything actually snaps apart very easily)
After (since this picture i adjusted the mounting to take up the small gap on top
bluetooth mic placement (in non functional hole of defrost vent)
permanent USB for iPod or even audio, video, or pictures on a flash drive. Supplies USB charging as well.

1. Removed the gauge cluster trim panel
2. Remove the defrost vent. There are 4 clips holding this on. Use a small flat head screwdriver the pry the clips free. Start with the two clips that are closest to the other A/C vent. They are a little hard to see but they are back there.
3. Use a soldering iron to melt a hole in that last port. This is hard to explain so if you are very interested i can post pictures. I had to make sure i didnt make the hole too big so that air would pass over the microphone.
4. Run the wire through the back of the port.
5. Melt a small notch in the port where it connects to the port when you put the trim panel back on. (This gives the wire somewhere to go when they are connected) Again this is a little hard to explain without pictures. Tape a small piece of foam (i used foam from the packaging of my head unit) over where the wire exits the port to make sure everything is sealed when the ports fit back together.
6. Run the wire along the top of the gauges and behind a few things and make your way to the back of the head unit.
7. Replace the panels and you are set.:nerd:
It says in the manual not to mount the mic near air vents so i did my best to isolate it from any air flow. I couldnt resist putting it here because it is very hidden and looks clean. After testing there is some wind noise for whoever you are talking to when the defrost is on high. This doesn't bother me because i rarely need to use use defrost. If you are in a colder climate and use your defrost all the time then this might bug you. Let me know if you want pictures so i can try to describe some of this stuff a little better.
