Passenger door won't stay closed (wont latch)

Hey guys. I have a 2005 toyota 4runner, and I just ran into a problem with it. Out of nowhere (regular use only), the passenger door stopped staying closed. The little device in the door isn't moving into the latched position, and the lock on the door is not budging.

Right now, its secure with the seatbelt, but this can't possibly work for long. I have to wait until the weekend is over to take it to a toyota dealer to get it looked at, but I was hoping some of you might have an idea what the problem could be.

Still having issues with this? My neighbor had the same problem with her explorer due to the extreme cold. The door latch mechanism froze and she forced it open.

i have messed with latches a bit in my time and the most common problem i see is when the door is opan, someone hits the latch and it closes, thus closing the open point for the door to slide into and lock over it.

i would open your door and see if you can pop the latch back, or compare it with another door, ill betcha they will look diffrent.

just try and flip the latch back and you should be good to go!
