pay to install lift or do it myself ?

I received my Toytec ultimate boss lift for my 4 runner last Friday. I am a little hesitant on installing it my self due to the PIA of the kdss and sway bar. I have read multiple treads on the install with KDSS but still do not feel comfortable on doing it or looking forward to it.I did install 2 lifts on my last 2 FJ's. So tech skills I have.pay a shop to do it or just grab my Natz and just go for it ?

DIY its not hard at all took my and my buddy just about 4 hours and a case of beer and a good time, mines only an SR5 tho

DIY. The KDSS bar isn't that bad, just disconnect and reconnect at the UCAs with 4 wheels on the ground. Some prybars and punches make reconnecting easier.

No I think we'd have to get eddie to do it, Jesse linked the thread... but if the rate was fair i'd pay them both to do it.

I got confused when I saw 3 accordions down there.

decided to pull the trigger and do it on my own ! I got one of my best buds to give a hand.install set for Sat. post some pics.
 
I'm looking forward to your DIY experience - I've been going back and forth on the same thing with my truck. I wanna do it myself, just need to make sure I can have it done in a weekend so that I have something to drive to work the next week.

Good luck! Please let us know how it goes. I need to install the MetalTech heavy duty rear springs on mine soon -- I'd appreciate any tips you come up with after this experience.

The MetaTech extended travel heavies (assuming thats what you have) are a biiiiaaachhh to install. They are a bit longer than most so you will want to make sure you can push down on the rear axle as much as possible to get them in. 2 people is a good idea. You can disconnect the upper links if you can't get it in right away which should help. They are great springs though!

Yep, that's what I have... great, can't wait.

I'm to the point now where I take my estimated time to install, add 30 minutes then multiply by 4. So if I think I can do it in 30 minutes, it will take me four hours... haha.

lift done. took us 4 hrs. 2 jacks, ratchet straps and a 12 pck all done. will post some pics soon. thanks for the confidence booster.

the rear in ok its not that bad. We disconnected the upper sway bar bots on booth sides. The whole axle dropped. Jacks will help you move it back up so you can re align it.

Sweet! You didn't do MT long travel though right? The difficulty I described was the extended travel HD springs as they give even more lift than what you seem to have. Without bumpers, etc, etc, you would have extreme rake I'm thinking!

Your truck is looking good!
