Performance chips?

So what is your take on the on/off piggy back units like the Venom400 for instance, is it just fooling the TPS and leaning out the mix? Had a buddy run one on a vtec and swore it was like having electronic NoS.

now that, is funny. all it does is change the sensor outputs from the TPS and map sensor to the ECU, basically telling your ECU you are at WOT when you're not, thus making is seem like you have more power until you actually reach WOT and it falls on its face. just more ricer BS IMO. its just one of those automotive things where you have to think... now if it really made a "25% increase in power with no ill-effects"..... everyone that is remotely in to cars would have one. not the case.

RANT:

i am very proud to be an american and support our troops, the whole nine. however, the japanese know how to do it when it comes to internal combustion items. same reason i only race honda motocross bikes and wont touch anything else. point being, im not going to touch an ecu that was designed by an amazing engineer at toyota, honda etc. yes, such things as ignition curves can be changed for the better on some stock motors but thats not the point or worth while on a car motor.

on a naturally aspirated stock v8? not enough. modifying an ecu is *usually* for high-strung racing engines that have specific mods or expectations at certain rpms etc.

I think you'll find that most if not all racing engines are NOT computer controlled. There's no need. They have one mode - "drive hard".

Depends on what type of racing you're talking about. F1 cars are extremely computerized,as are Le Mans cars, while your average NASCAR just learned fuel injection recently.

May her Majesty smile for once you old bird!

Post Note- That was all done by a guy on a laptop with a pre programmed algorithm that played with RPM and Shift points on the vehicle. If you notice, the rear wheels are jacked up an removed. Le Mans cars are close to their production counterparts and so would use much of the same control systems. I suspect that even some Drag Racers use computer controls on their vehicles, but I'm not that big into that scene so I'm not sure.

Seriously?? Guys, have a beer and chill, threads are for information, not "whose is bigger" !! Some go by what we think we know from experience and hear-say, others from cold hard facts.. it comes down to being the bigger person and accepting the information, not meet me at the flagpole after school... Sheesh!

I completly agree with you man! I joined for information not little junior high "facebook" fights! Just here for a good time!

Facebook is for Jr High? Oh crap..j/k

Now... Back to topic...
So other than CAI, ISR, Cat Delete, EGR/PAIR delete, fuel pressure and VAFM(expensive if you screw up) , which are equipment mods, there is no true plug an play power chip for us? Or have I misunderstood something?

theres a a couple plug a play chips i think jet makes one and gforce makes one, they dont alow any customized tuning there just preset to lean the fuel mixture slightly to gain a little more HP and save a litte mpg's I haven't personly tested them i doubt there going to lean the mixture to the danger point but your certainly going to have a hotter combustion temperature. give and take give and take thats what it always comes down to. i want a lift but i like being aero dynamic... you just make sacrifices on one end to gain on another its all preference.

Do you think running leaner will decrease smell of exhaust? We have all dealt with putting the window down on the highway mashing on the gas and then getting a good Wiff of burnt fuel. I would think the chip would decrease that as well.

seems legit, reduce the unburnt fuel exiting the engine reduce the nasty smell..

PM SkylineGTRracer, he will have answers to all your performance questions!

Wanna see trucks/suv's with high output, check out xr-underground

Thanks Casper, but I like the thread here, and being new to the forum, PM's happen by accident more than intent.

Oh are we playing the noob knows nothin game?
SAC or SAS = solid axle swap/conversion
ADD - automatic differential disconnect
OME - Old Man Emu
DD - Daily Driver
JNTTFBTATS- Just new to this forum but thanks all the same.

Ehh this thread is exhausting. It's too bad no one cares enough about Toyota performance to crack the ECU and give us programs like HP Tuners or EFI Live
